Ninja Van is raising US$60 million funding

 

Southeast Asian last-mile logistics company Ninja Van is raising “at least” US$60 million in its latest fundraising round, according to Reuters.

Citing anonymous sources, the report said that existing and new investors are set to participate in the round, including Abraaj Group.

Abraaj Group has declined to comment on the report. Last month, Ninja Van CEO and co-founder Lai Chang Wen confirmed that the company is fundraising but delicned to give further details.

The funding is believed to be used to fuel the company’s further expansion in the Southeast Asian market.

Xurpas named as “most active” tech acquirer in SEA

 

Philippine-based tech company Xurpas has been named as the “most active” tech acquirer in the Southeast Asian region in a report by venture intelligence platform CB Insights, according to Dealstreet Asia.

Xurpas topped the list with six acquisitions since 2012, with four of the acquired companies based in the Philippines.

Xurpas’s position is followed by South Korea’s Yello Mobile (five acquisitions) and Singapore’s migme (four acquisitions).

Singapore is developing chatbot app for pre-enlistees and national servicemen

 

The Singapore government through the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) is developing a mobile messenger app that will enable pre-enlistees and national servicemen to find information on enlistment, deferment, and other national service matters by chatting in the mobile app.

The Strait Times reported that a series of trials is tentatively planned to start in November.

Coconuts TV, iflix team up to launch documentary series on the platform

 

Southeast Asian (SEA) media company Coconuts Media and video streaming platform iflix today announced the imminent launch of Coconuts TV on iflix, a six-episode documentary series exploring “weird and wondrous” stories from SEA countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.

According to a press statement, the filming process has commenced with the show scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2017 and released exclusively on iflix in early 2018.
