Serangoon resident calls delivery workers ‘dirty b*******’ for stepping on doorstep with ‘black dirty shoes’

Singapore – A resident in Serangoon ended up being blacklisted by delivery workers in the area after complaints were made regarding her strongly-worded sign scolding delivery personnel for being “dirty b*******.”

A woman staying in a unit at Block 304 Serangoon Avenue 2 had posted a sign warning delivery workers against stepping on her doorstep with their “black, dirty shoes,” reported Chinese newspaper Lianhe Wanbao on Friday (Apr 23).

The poster reads, “Dirty b*******. Stop stepping on my doorstep with your black dirty shoes and expect us to clean your dirt”, followed by more name-calling.

A caller informed Wanbao after his friend made deliveries to the unit twice. He noted that both were unpleasant experiences.

“The first time, she scolded him for leaving his footprints on the doorstep. He thought it was baffling, but he just walked away,” said the informant.

His friend saw the hand-written note posted on the front gate during the second delivery.

“After my friend saw the note, he was very angry and just placed the parcel at her doorstep and left.”

However, the woman later complained to the company, noting that the delivery worker had dirtied her doorstep. She also wasn’t happy that he had left her parcel at her door, reported Wanbao.

According to the woman’s neighbours, she was obsessed with cleanliness. They would often see her scrubbing the corridor every night at around 10 pm with a disinfecting solution.

Speaking to Wanbao, the woman explained that the delivery personnel’s shoes were often covered in mud and dirt. They would also leave her parcels on top of their footprints on her doorstep, which aggravated her.

“I was so angry the day before that I called the police and complained to the company.”

The woman hopes that delivery workers would hand her the parcel without stepping on her doorstep. If she is not at home, they should deliver at a different time, she added.

“Many of the delivery guys would complain to me, saying that it’s a ‘headache’ whenever they have to deliver items to her,” shared a neighbour.

The neighbour noted that the note has been posted for about two months and would change every four or five days but retain the same tone and message.

“They feel powerless as they’re just working hard to deliver items to customers but get scolded instead. They said they’ve ‘blacklisted’ her, but actually, there’s nothing they can do.” /TISG

Single mother of 3 wins S$20,000 lottery prize from S’pore telco Circles.Life

Singapore – A 31-year-old single mother of three won the S$20,000 lottery prize by Circles.Life and will use it to give her children “a stable and safe home to grow up in”.

Circles.Life, one of the fastest-growing telecommunications companies in the region, introduced the Homes for Diversity & Belonging Lottery with the belief that homeownership should be inclusive, said theAsianparent.com community platform.

Headquartered in Singapore, Circles.Life aims to help those in need through their largest-ever cash lottery of S$20,000. About 400 participants joined the lottery, which ended on Apr 20, and one winner was announced the following day.

According to Circles.Life, the young mother entered the lottery after being told about by her sister, who knew of her challenging financial situation.

She shared having faced countless challenges throughout her marriage, including verbal abuse and infidelity, which led to a divorce.

The mother then moved out of her marital home with the three kids and minimal savings.

“As a mother, all I ever wanted is to give my children a stable and safe home to grow up in. I am comforted to be one step closer to my dream of having a place we can call our own with the S$20,000 lottery prize,” she said.

“Thank you, Circles.Life for organising this lottery,” she added.

It was only natural for the mother to burst into tears after discovering she had won the lottery as she had taken on the role of sole provider, caregiver and educator to her children, reported mustsharenews.com.

“We are extremely touched to have received many personal stories from the everyday people,” said Janice Chua, Circles.Life’s Head of Growth for Singapore.

“Through these stories, we are more aware than ever of the impact of Covid-19 on families in Singapore. Some lost their jobs and struggled to put food on the table, some were not supported by their own family, some cramped in their rental flat, others fell sick and needed more aid,” she added.

These reasons will motivate the company “to do better in our innovation – product, campaigns, and more so that we can give back to those who need our support the most”, she said.

All other eligible lottery participants will receive two SIM cards from the Family Plan, fully paid for three months, as a consolation prize./TISG

Mark Lee and wife fought over him smiling at other women

0

Singapore — Singaporean actor Mark Lee and his wife have their fair share of arguments like most couples.

He once became emotional when he spoke of his younger daughter Calynn’s battle with kidney disease on the latest episode of Mediacorp talk show The Inner Circle.

However, the 52-year-old soon became his bubbly self again when his wife Catherine Ng appeared as one of the mystery guests. Host Guo Liang interviewed the couple to talk about their dating days. Lee and Ng have been married for more than 20 years. Interestingly, it was not love at first sight for Ng.

“Actually, I didn’t really like him at the beginning,” Ng confessed with an embarassed laugh.

Lee’s response, which he directed at the camera? “To all you female viewers, be careful ‘cos if you don’t have a good impression of a man, he could become your future husband.”

Even after Ng started dating Lee, the people around her was not sure of the actor as well.

“My father felt uneasy about letting me date an actor ‘cos he thought [Lee] might be a bit of a playboy,” she said, adding that Lee then promised to take Ng with him wherever he went.

Friends of Ng had their reservations too and asked her if she was really sure if she wanted to be with Lee. Ng shared that she was not attracted to Lee at first but his looks eventually grew on her. The actor also eventually managed to win Ng over by being there for her when she had some problems, according to 8days.sg.

“He’s very articulate and he’s very good at giving advice, so I slowly began to realise that he’s a pretty good person,” she shared. “He would also always call his mother at 9 or 10pm, which made me think, ‘This boy can’t be that bad.’”

However, like most couples, Lee and Ng had their fair share of arguments. Lee admitted that he once kicked his wife out of the car.

One of the things they fought about had something to do with Lee’s status as public figure. “Sometimes, when we went out, I’d be in the toilet and overhear other women say, ‘Hey, did you see that Mark Lee looking and smiling at me?’” Ng recalled. “I was furious! (Laughs)

Lee defended himself, saying that as a celebrity, it was only proper to smile back at people who were friendly towards him. “[I got mad at her ‘cos] I felt that she should be more understanding ‘cos of my line of work.”

Nowadays Ng would prefer keeping quiet during arguments with Lee as she has no way of having the last word. Then, a while later, his way of ‘apologising’ would be to go up to her and ask what she wants to eat.

During the show they then started talking about parenthood with Lee revealing that he originally wanted four kids as he thinks ‘4’ as his lucky number. (“You’re very fortunate that it’s not 13,” he quipped to his wife).

Lee changed his mind after seeing Ng go through a difficult pregnancy with their third and youngest child, seven-year-old Calynn. “She got rashes, suffered from very bad morning sickness, and spent more time in bed, so I thought it might be worse with a fourth pregnancy. I’m already very grateful for three children.”

Besides Calynn, Mark and Catherine also have 12-year-old daughter Calista and nine-year-old son Marksonn.

When asked about their disagreements on each other’s parenting styles, Lee said that he believes he shouldn’t give his kids too hard a time and just let them enjoy their childhood. “We didn’t have tuition classes when we were young, but children these days do, and that’s on top of all their homework. I thought it would be too tough for them, but later I realised… it’s necessary.”

Ng then said that while she has their two older ones enrolled in tuition and enrichment courses, she doesn’t want to put as much pressure on their youngest ‘cos of her illness. “So she’s happier, but she’s also lazier. (Laughs)”/TISG

“Every song is a reflection of the darker version of myself. And I’ve found a sense of healing, by reaching in and realising that true strength is found in embracing every version of the self,” he wrote about the album on Instagram.

While this is Lin’s first English album, the singer has released a number of English tracks over the years, scattered across his 14-album career including Until The Day, Stay With You (duet with Stefanie Sun) and I Am Alive (duet with Jason Mraz).

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Range Rover is being sold at an auction

Oxfordshire — It is no surprise that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge choose luxury when it comes to their vehicle of choice.

If you want the same kind of luxury, you can too if you have USD50,000 (SGD66,000) or so to spare. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Range Rover will be auctioned off next month by Bonhams in Oxfordshire, England. The luxury 4×4 was initially supplied to the royal household by Land Rover’s VIP Department in 2013 for the Duke and Duchess’s personal use but was sold to a private owner in July 2020.

This particular model of Range Rover is a Vogue SE with less than 39,000 miles on it, according to BAZAAR.com. The vehicle is in great condition with a full garage history. According to the release from Bonhams, the Range Rover in question is top of the range and comes with Baltic blue livery, 20-inch alloy wheels, and “a contrasting Almond and Espresso leather interior.” The specs are as expected of a royal vehicle.

Most would be curious about how much the royal Range Rover in tip-top condition is worth. It’s reportedly expected to go for between $42,000 (SGD55,000) and $56,000 (SGD74,000) when auctioned off on May 22.

“The Royal Family has been linked to the British firm for seven decades, with many senior Royals seen being driven or taking the wheel of different Land Rover models,” the Bonhams release says, adding that the model being auctioned is “a popular choice with the Windsors.”

And, according to Bonhams, this is a really rare opportunity for royal fans, because the Range Rovers used by The Firm are typically hard to identify once they’re no longer used by the royals.

“Usually, Land Rovers and Range Rovers used by the Royal Household have the vehicle registration numbers changed once out of service, making it difficult to confirm their famous history,” the Bonhams release explains. “This example is a rare exception to this.”

Photos of the vehicle are available at the Bonhams site and a walk-around video of the Range Rover can be viewed below.

Fully vaccinated dormitory resident at SCM Tuas Lodge a new Covid-19 case

Singapore – The sole Covid-19 dormitory case confirmed on Friday (Apr 23) was a fully vaccinated work permit holder.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced in its daily Covid-19 update on Friday that the man, identified as Case 62273, is a 21-year-old India national who arrived in Singapore in Oct 2018.

The man is employed by Sembcorp Marine Integrated Yard Pte Ltd and works at Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard Yard. He resides at SCM Tuas Lodge (80 Tuas South Boulevard), said MOH.

The man, who is asymptomatic, was confirmed positive for the virus during testing on Apr 19 as part of Rostered Routine Testing (RRT). He was immediately isolated.

An individual test was done on Apr 20, which also came back positive for Covid-19 the following day. The man was subsequently conveyed to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) in an ambulance.

According to MOH, the man received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine on Mar 11 and the second on Apr 1. “This likely accounts for his lack of symptoms and positive serology test result,” said MOH.

“The Covid-19 vaccine is effective in preventing symptomatic disease for the vast majority of those vaccinated, but it is possible for vaccinated individuals to get infected.”

MOH added that further research is required to determine if the vaccine will also prevent onward transmission of the infection.

“Our existing key enablers – safe management measures, testing, and contact tracing – continue to be necessary and effective in helping us to mitigate the spread and keep community transmission low.”

There were also 36 imported cases reported on Friday. Nine are Singaporeans, and seven are Singapore Permanent Residents who returned from India, Indonesia, the Netherlands and Papua New Guinea.

Three cases are Dependent’s Pass holders who arrived from India and Nepal, while another three are Student’s Pass holders from India.

Another four are Work Pass holders who arrived from India, the Maldives and Nepal.

Meanwhile, nine are Work Permit holders from India, Indonesia and the Philippines. The last case is a Short-Term Visit Pass holder from India.

The individuals had all been placed on stay-home-notice (SHN) upon arrival in Singapore and tested while serving SHN.

There are currently 80 confirmed Covid-19 cases still in the hospital. Most are in stable condition or improving while one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit, said MOH.

There are 220 cases isolated and cared for at community facilities./TISG

Even Richie Rich has to earn his supper

India — Mishal Raheja is like a cat on a hot tin roof. His music video, Sara Google, has breached the seven lakh mark on YouTube in two days, but he reflects: “Will the initial euphoria sustain?”

Fans still address him as Dutta Bhau (the name of the underworld don he played in his popular TV show Laagi Tujhse Lagan), but this song could be the springboard to a new chapter as a singer-actor.

The beginning

In 2017, Mishal was introduced to singer Hemaa Sardesai, (Aawara bhanware) at a debate session. She heard him hum and casually asked if he would like to sing a duet with her. Mishal recalls, “I had three reasons to do the single Power of Love – I would get the opportunity to sing with ‘the’ Hemaa Sardesai; work with internationally renowned music producer Tony Mercedes; and get to sing! As a child, I wouldn’t eat my lunch till the song Bol bol kuchh toh bol (Nauker Biwi Ka) was played on the VCR.”

While he was fine tuning his sa re ga ma with daily riyaaz, the music company Sa Re Ga Ma pencilled him in for their music video, Dream Girl, featuring Hema Malini as a singer and actor. Mishal exults, “Hema ma’am boosted my confidence by calling me Dutta Bhau in our very first meeting. At the music release, when she saw me sitting with the audience, she invited me to join Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra and her on stage.”

Power of Love (2017) gave Mishal the impetus to learn music from Tridib Chowdhury who gave him a valuable piece of advice: “Tansen banna hai toh pehle Kaansen bano (If you want to sing well, concentrate first on heeding the notes).” Eventually Tridib composed the music for Sara Google.

Spurred to sing a Hindi song by his fan club, Mishalites, Mishal decided to dabble with the single, Aye Shama (2019), albeit as an actor-producer. He entrusted the ghazalnuma song to Hemaa Sardesai, a first for her, but she surprised the sceptics and herself too.

Walk the talk

To someone who doesn’t know him intimately, Mishal’s story appears to be about a rich brat with Dame Fortune as his arm candy. After all, he comes from an affluent family, lives in a palatial sea-facing home, holds a degree in business administration from Ohio University, has a fleet of cars, and a pair of dogs, Brad and Angie, who can’t sleep without a cooling air-conditioner. Mishal has many stamps on his passport as a travel blogger.

He dismisses the notion of privilege helping his career, however. “I had to struggle for a year before I got my first break. I didn’t enter the industry with blinkers on; I saw so many actors born to famous stars not being able to make a mark for themselves. It was only when Anurag Basu signed me for Love Story as the guitar-strumming lover that people sat up and noticed me.”

For a discerning viewer, Mishal’s performance in Love Story is one of his best, but it was the crowd-pleasing role as Dutta Bhau in Laagi Tujhse Lagan that made Kirron Kher remark, “I love you in the show.” He bought a Mercedes for his parents from the big bucks that came as a payoff “to show my gratitude”.

“I don’t feel a sense of entitlement,” he maintains. “Once I turned 16, I stopped celebrating my birthday. I thought, ‘I spend more money in one day than my employees earn in a month!’ Not fair.”

Before taking baby steps into the TV industry, Mishal apprenticed under his dad, a successful garment exporter. He says, “I declined my dad’s offer to share his cabin. I sat with the staff and ate lunch with them too.”

When Mishal’s film Budget Trip was not released despite being ready, for a flickering moment he thought, ‘Should I ask dad to produce a film for me?’

“But then,” he says, “Better sense prevailed. Everyone should have a mission statement. Mine is to make millions and help thousands of underprivileged people … and I will walk the talk.”
