When Kim Kardashian expressed her excitement over Shah Rukh Khan’s movies: ‘Can’t wait to watch them’

India — While Shah Rukh Khan has fans across the globe, little did anyone imagine he would hold a Kardashian member’s attention. Back in 2011, Kim Kardashian revealed she had received movies featuring Shah Rukh in the lead and was extremely excited about watching them.

On October 1, 2011, Kim took to Twitter to reveal her friend sent across the movies. “(Sheeraz) just sent me some Bollywood Movies starring Shahrukh Khan. Can’t wait to watch them!!!” Fans were thrilled to hear that she was interested in watching Shah Rukh’s movies. Some fans came forward with recommendations.

” A good Shah Rukh Khan Movie is: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge & Kuch Kuch Hota Hai….These movies were very good,” a fan recommended at the time. “Devdas, kal ho naa ho, main hoon naa, etc i cant go on with list here since there are piles of movies of @iamsrk u would lov (sic),” another added. Some even asked her to consider a career in Bollywood. “@KimKardashian u shd watch it n consider acting with shah rukh khan coz u look bollywood-ish!!! #enjoy,” a fan had said.

A few years after the tweet, Kim appeared on the cover of Vogue India. The March 2018 edition featured the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star in a traditional Indian saree and lehenga.

Lately, Kim has been tackling her divorce from Kanye West. Kim filed for the divorce from the international rapper in February, nearly seven years after their wedding. The couple shares four kids: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm.

Shah Rukh, on the other hand, has been busy shooting his upcoming movie Pathan. The actor will reunite with Deepika Padukone in the movie. The Yash Raj Films movie also stars John Abraham in a pivotal role. He was last seen in the movie Zero, in 2018.

Diner’s meal ruined after she finds bone in fish fillet, chef tells her she should check

Singapore—Fish fillets are expected to be boneless, especially when they’re eaten as part of a sandwich which one takes in one’s hands and polishes off —without checking for bones.

Right?

Apparently not, as one netizen found out at T Bob’s Corner, where she said, her dinner was “ruined.”

A netizen by the name of YunJia Tan posted a “Public Service Announcement” on the popular COMPLAINT SINGAPORE page to say that she had ordered a crispy fish fillet burger, which had a bone, which she ended up swallowing.

FB screengrab: COMPLAINT SINGAPORE

And after finding the first bone, she found another one.

To add insult to injury, when she asked the chef about the matter, she was told that she should “should have checked for the bones too”.

Ms Tan was understandably upset. “WOW,” she wrote. “Instead of apologising or explaining, they asked me back for my plate of half-eaten food.”

Despite the unfortunate presence of bones in her meal, the staff, managers and chef did not come to her table to talk to her about the incident, she said.

“I’m sorry but does anyone check for fish bones in a patty in a BURGER?

What if kids eat it?!?!?,” she added.

After her half-finished meal was taken away, she went to pay for it.

Ms Tan discovered that she had been given a  50 per cent discount on that fish burger on the bill, which is not what she wanted.

“To clarify to some of you, we are not looking for a discount. We simply want to highlight the irresponsible manner of dealing with this situation by the restaurant.”

She “strongly” did not recommend the fish burger, she added, especially for children or the elderly.

She ended her post by writing, “*Pls google fish fillet burger and see if it should have contained bones. “

MOH: 3rd Covid shot possibly needed after 18 months

Singapore—Speaking at a virtual news conference on Thursday (Apr 22), the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) Kenneth Mak said a booster vaccine shot may be needed to protect people against Covid-19 eighteen months after they get their vaccinations, to combat waning immunity.

The booster shot would protect also individuals against the new variants of the virus, he added.

Associate Professor Mak, MOH’s director of medical services, said, “While vaccination gives a clear protective benefit to all who may be exposed to COVID-19 infection, the vaccination is not 100 per cent protective.”

A year and a half after vaccinations, how protected a person may be is “still a relatively uncertain situation,” he added.

Singapore, along with other countries, is therefore studying the need for an eventual booster shot.

The booster shot would be necessary because vaccinated people, explained Associate Professor Mak, may experience “gradually waning immune protection,” as evidenced by those who have been reinfected with the virus after they recovered.

If tests show that the immune levels of people who have been vaccinated “start to drift downwards,” he added,  “it would then be the right time to start planning to vaccinate these people as well.”

Furthermore, the new variants that have emerged over the past few months, especially the UK, Indian and South African variants, may be able to withstand the current vaccines.

As of Tuesday (Apr 20) there have been 350 local and imported cases of different variants in the country.

Associate Professor Mak added, “It may well be the case that we need booster vaccine doses to augment the immunity that we already have from the previous vaccinations and to give us additional protection, particularly against these variants of concern.”

Workers who have recovered from the infection may be given a single booster shot, said Mr Tan See Leng, the Second Minister for Manpower.

“Studies have shown that there is a boosting of the immunity after you’ve given them a single shot, so we do have plans for that.”

At the moment, only two Covid-19 vaccines have been authorized for use in Singapore— Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.

The Pfizer-BioNTech has shown to be effective against the Covid-19 variant found in Brazil, but not as effective against the variant from South Africa.

Studies have also shown that two Moderna vaccines being developed are shown to protect against the South African and Brazilian variants when administered to mice.

Almost 850,000 people in Singapore have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or 14.9 per cent of the population. Over 1.35 million people in the country have received at least one vaccination shot.

Health Minister Gan Kim Yong urged people to get their vaccine shots, even as he acknowledged limited supplies due to the worldwide shortage.

“I therefore encourage all medically eligible Singaporeans and long-term residents to go for vaccination when it is offered to you,” Mr Gan said.

Keeping up with Kaftans

India — Relaxed, comfortable, edgy and versatile, kaftans have enjoyed their moment of fame in the fashion world for years. Today, as we celebrate fashion that’s easy, relaxed and comfortable, kaftans have once again come into the limelight, stirring nostalgia.

“Individual choices have undergone a huge change since the pandemic set in. People are looking at stylish garments that have stood the test of time and are also comfortable enough to wear at home. The Indian summer is also extremely suitable for Kaftans. They are fluid and Indians are very familiar with this silhouette. It was widely used in homes as sleepwear and slowly evolved to the mainstream fashion wardrobe as well in the form of resort wear. It is but natural that they would make a comeback as a sartorial pick for many during these changing times,” says designer Ritu Kumar.

The Ottoman’s of the Turkish Empire wore kaftans in kaleidoscopic colours with a plethora of ribbons and button embellishments. In Northern Africa, women wore it primarily as a one-piece garment. It was also seen as a sleepwear years back until it came into mainstream fashion. In the 50s, designers such as Christian Dior and Balenciaga the ensemble was introduced as a loose evening garment. Later, it was made popular in the 60s by Yves Saint Laurent’s hostess dress.

“Kaftan; a ubiquitous and unisex attire, will always retain its charm. From appearing very first in Persia (600 BC.) to Dior in 50s and YSL in 60s, it hasn’t lost its true essence of flowy appearance and comfort. With minimal radical changes in sleeves or length,” says designer Prreeti Jaiin Nainutia.

Fresher iterations of kaftans curated by designers transmit an air of fun and comfort. They are no more just resortwear. “Their silhouettes have grown into more versatile options that are great not only for your wardrobe at home but also perfect to wear outside or even for formal occasions. As opposed to just a simple kaftan, one will now see kaftan dresses of varying lengths, kaftan inspired tops and capes with textured/embroidered detailing, and prints that take it from a mere piece of clothing that was earlier known for being confined to the house to now a chic garment with a bohemian vibe that is perfect for an outdoor brunch, beach holiday, a glamorous night out with friends, a destination wedding or lounging around in the house, but in style,” explains Kumar.

Designer Rina Dhaka says it makes you feel like you are on a vacation while residing at home. “It is the need of the hour and is not a fad. It is here to stay for a while now. We will see many new variations such as slit kaftans, front open ones and even with belts.”

The versatility of the silhouette makes it the right pick for everyone. “Women with the perfect curves can cinch the kaftan with belts, petite ladies can wear shorter kaftan cord sets with solid colours and open neck lines, taller women can opt for kaftan maxi dresses in fun Jaipuri block prints and even sheer fabrics like Organza and georgette,” recommends designer Anushree Parekh.

Invest in statement prints with matching pants, nothing like a print on print cord set. It is not just for a relaxed look but also formal sightings. “A rich silk kaftan with an open neckline can be a perfect mehendi or a Diwali party outfit teamed with a dressy choker! For the Indian summer, cotton block printed kaftan dress is the perfect go to look,” says Parekh.

Kim Bum shares why he keeps all his scripts, his role in Law School and more

0

Seoul — Actor Kim Bum was recently interviewed and photographed by Singles magazine for their May issue. The Korean actor impressed the staff on set with his intriguing vibe and amazing facial expressions, making them comment, “He’s even elite when it comes to photoshoots.”

According to Soompi, Kim Bum has continuously worked to broaden his acting spectrum over the years, beginning with Boys Over Flowers in 2009 to Tale of the Nine-Tailed last year. The actor surprisingly revealed that he has kept the scripts of every project he has ever worked on, saying: “If I don’t understand a character’s situation or the background they grew up in, I can’t properly immerse into the role. That’s why when I receive a script, I write down my own story on the first page. That became a foundation and I’ve now done that for every project.”

He continued, “It’d be a lie if I said that in-depth action or emotional scenes weren’t hard. I’m still thankful that I got to give and receive positive energy with good people.”

The actor recently focused on very “spicy” characters such as a gumiho (mythical nine-tailed fox), a psychopath serial killer and a monster.

He explained with a smile that director Kim Seok Yoon’s comment to “now give off a plain yogurt taste” was very refreshing to him.

Kim Bum elaborated, “He told me that I had to know how to express a plain taste if I am to express other tastes. That’s why I worked to eliminate the original taste and colours of Kim Bum.”

Kim Bum is now starring in JTBC’s new drama, Law School, where he will play Han Joon Hwi, an elite student. He explained, “You might think that it’s about the difficult and strict topic known as ‘law,’ but it’s more a story about how people live their lives and what possibilities can occur [in law school]. When the director first suggested it, it’s true that I had no confidence in the genre of law.”

He continued, “It’s just set at law school, but there was nothing more difficult about it than other dramas in terms of the issues arising regarding conflict, jealousy, and friendship.” To prepare for the role, Kim Bum revealed that he looked for mock court case classes, re-enacting them with his fellow actors./TISG

Thirty five ‘girlfriends’: Japanese man arrested after using fake birthday dates to swindle gifts

0

PETALING JAYA — A Japanese man was arrested after swindling gifts and cash from 35 women.

Takashi Miyagawa, 39, pretended to be in a serious relationship with all of his 35 “girlfriends” by constantly changing his birthday dates to defraud them so he could get presents from them.

His plan was exposed when the women formed a “victims association” and reported him to the police in February.

Tokyoreporter wrote that Miyagawa was a part-time employee whose actual birthday was November 13, but he lied to three other women who came forward about his birthday.

The fake birthdays he told them were February 22, a date in July and somewhere in April.

Police said that he received 100,000 yen (RM3,808) in presents from the three women including money worth 20,000 yen (RM761) and a suit valued at 30,000yen (RM1,142).

Using a multi-level marketing strategy focusing on the sale of hydrogen-water showerheads and other products, Police believed that the conman used that tactic to meet women.

Daily Star reported that he targeted single women and suggested that marriage would be on the cards.

One of the victims told the news portal that she was taken aback after Miyagawa kissed her despite only meeting her twice.

“I told him, ‘I don’t want to do that unless you are someone who wants to get married and really be with me in the future,” she said.

In return, Miyagawa responded, “I’m serious. I’m going to be with you for the rest of my life.”

Spruce up your decor as you work from home

India — Spruce up your decor as you work from home

With Mumbai and Delhi in lockdown, decor experts share tips.

With Mumbai and Delhi both in lockdown, it’s time to spruce up your living spaces. Nothing kills productivity like cramped up spaces. So even if you have a small designated desk, make sure to de-clutter it and focus on ways you can make your space as interesting as possible. Design can be used to de-clutter space too.

Raseel Gujral Ansal, Co Founder CASA PARADOX suggests creating a workspace. “A designated workspace ensures that you work efficiently and effectively, No matter how big or small your designated area is – here are some recommendations that I always keep in mind while designing and curating a workstation. Make sure there is ample light – Choose a space that has ample natural light, working from home can get demotivating and gloomy (to say the very least) so pick a space that ensures that it has a flow of light. A room with a view of nature works best, making the space a personal sanctuary rather than a place for professional toil. I love to use aesthetics in a utilitarian fashion, so you’ll notice a lot of hidden storage spaces, cabinets that double as bookshelves.”

She adds, “Add some drama on your wall. Strategic decor choices help a lot to keep clutter at bay. For example in my home office, I didn’t fill every inch but instead kept the tablespace pretty bared-back, which lets my stunning sculptural stone desk (which was actually designed as a dining table) shine. I did, however, add large storage units along the pack walls to keep my work essentials neatly tucked away. The items that do get left out are all some beautiful nostalgia-evolving objects, collected over the years. Revamp your patio area – With this lockdown, gardens and balconies are a place of refuge, now more than ever. An unloved patio or roof garden is no place to spend sunnier days, especially if it’s a graveyard for dead plants and damaged furniture. Start with scrub and replacing old pots. De-grime patio furniture with warm water and washing liquid. If any furniture needs replacing, consider moving older furniture outside. If the area is covered, you could go for fluffy floor pillows and add color with an outdoor rug perhaps. Even the smallest space can look like a garden, like your window sill. Get creative, use the supplies you have at home like planters, vines, and creepers, add fairy lights, or even candles for a whimsical touch.”

Chanya Kaur, Founder – The Pure Concept Home observes that home offices or work desks can often get messy and neglected.

“Addgreens to your space which will bring in life and you will love to spend some more time. A lovely indoor plant like ZZ will look pretty and also clean the air. Potting the same in a wicker or terracotta planter will look perfect. Another way could be filling up the space with vibrant art that uplifts your mood. You simply create your own artwork and have it farmed. The last one, mix old and new. Mixing vintage and modern makes a house feel personal and lived in. So pairing a vintage rug with black and white minimal wall art will create that balance, keeping the space understated,” suggests Charu.

Finding loopholes in travel restrictions: transiting from other countries

Singapore — Travellers are looking for ways to sneak through the restrictions placed on long-term pass holders and short-term visitors from India.

Discussions started after the announcement that Singapore would be tightening restrictions on visitors from India. Long-term pass holders and short-term visitors who have travelled to India within the last 14 days will not be allowed to enter or transit through Singapore as of 11.59 pm on Friday (Apr 23).

Some netizens are suggesting flying from India first to destinations not restricted by Singapore. These include the Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

It is believed that if they first travel to one of these destinations and stay there for two weeks, they would be allowed to enter Singapore as they did not come from India.

In a private Facebook group related to returning to Singapore, members are discussing the best way to return. Some are suggesting travelling to the Maldives before entering Singapore. Currently, travel is allowed between India and the Maldives, but travellers must undergo a Covid-19 RT-PCR test with the sample taken within 96 hours before departure. There is no quarantine for those showing zero symptoms.

Some have shared that they are travelling to Singapore from India due to work opportunities. According to the Singapore Contractors Association Ltd, the majority of the migrant workers are sourced from India or Bangladesh.

Calvin Cheng in a Facebook post recently shared how when borders to the UK were suddenly closed in January, people he knew had to “travel to Paris, Dubai, Frankfurt, etc, stay for 14 days before flying back”.

He added, “Our Indian national friends who are now stranded will do the same – via Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Maldives, etc. They will still return, but at great inconvenience and cost.”

He also suggested this method to individuals appealing for help regarding travelling to Singapore.

However, many Singaporeans are against this method of gaining entry, sharing that it defeats the purpose of the travel restrictions. “This is a public health risk” netizens argue.

Currently, visitors from the Maldives and other lower-risk countries are only required to serve a 14-day stay-home notice and test negative for Covid-19.
