Singapore ― Breaking down Singapore’s current Covid-19 predicament, Makansutra founder KF Seetoh asked: “how did we get here?”

He commented that Singapore is “a woefully obedient society that unquestionably does what it’s told to contain covid (and many other things)”.

He said that as the regulations were implemented, Singaporeans stayed home during the Circuit Breaker, complied with safe-distancing measures, vaccinated ourselves with two doses, and got swab tests as and when necessary.

“We saw next to zero cases just a few months back even before vax statues was anywhere near herd immunity. Now, as we reach 85% fully vax status ( the world’s highest)…it’s getting worse, over a 1700 cases today alone,” Mr Seetoh wrote.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (Sept 29), Mr Seetoh again asked what had happened to Singapore’s Covid-19 situation as the higher the numbers of those vaccinated were, the higher the number of Covid-19 cases, and the more serious a possibility of tighter lockdown or Circuit Breaker got.

“Where did we go wrong. Is the vaccine losing it’s battle to the variant.. will the third jab work?. Will they get Covid even after the 3rd jab?” he asked.

Citing countries such as Hong Kong and New Zealand with fewer numbers of those vaccinated, Mr Seetoh added that they were opening up their country to other vaccinated people. However, the opposite was happening for Singapore with our media “touting headlines like “death” and ICU”, he said.

Another point the advocate for all things hawker brought up at the end of his post: “They are encouraging visitors as our cases rise daily. Puzzling. Why.”

“I see no light at the end of this disturbing tunnel. Rule with courage, not fear”, he wrote.

Many of those who commented on Mr Seetoh’s post blamed the multi-ministry task force for not managing the situation adequately.
