Singapore — A cyclist was caught on camera passing through the pedestrian crossing at the last moment, sparking an unfortunate accident for another road user.

Such was the case when a cyclist tried cutting it close when crossing the street, resulting in a passing motorcyclist slipping and falling.

Unsuspecting third parties often get involved in the mishap of such road incidents.

“Cyclist rushed out to cross the road, despite the pedestrian lights are already flickering to wait and not cross,” wrote Facebook page ROADS.sg on Monday (Dec 6).

As a result, an incoming motorcyclist about to make a turn suddenly pulled on the brakes, causing his fall from the vehicle.

The post noted that the cyclist “just stared and continued with his journey” instead of stopping to help the motorcyclist.

“Where is the compassion, remorse and heart for another fellow man?” noted ROADS.sg.

The incident is said to have happened at the junction of Changi North Street 1 and Upper Changi Road North on Dec 5.

Rather irresponsible cyclist…

Cyclist rushed out to cross the road, despite the pedestrain lights are already flickering to wait and not cross.

Due to his action, the motorcyclist braked hard to avoid him and fell. The cyclist instead of stopping to help just stared and continued with his journey. Where is the compassion, remorse and heart for another fellow man.

Kudos to those who immediatly jumped to assist the fallen motorcyclist.

Happened at the junction of Changi North St 1 and Upper Changi Road North on 5/12/21 at 1737 hours.

“Gov should take such cyclist away for good. Didn’t even help,” commented Facebook user Adrian Sim.

“I’m a driver and cyclist..too many self-entitled cyclists on the road with total disregard to other road users, especially at traffic junction where they cross at high speed without slowing down,” said one Lim Boo Tuck. “Government should make a stand on cyclists to dismount and push at a junction if they cycle at pedestrians lane,” he added.

“Cycling at government’s encouragement without regard for rules and regulations and others’ safety,” netizen Frank Ly highlighted.

“Encounter numerous times, even when I am already reaching very near them. Some worse, e-bike and just ride across at 40km per hour out of nowhere,” said Facebook user Eric Aheart Wong.

According to the safe cycling guidelines issued by the Land Transport Authority, Traffic Police and Tampines GROs, cyclists are told to slow down when approaching road openings such as pedestrian crossings.
