A woman who took a bite out of her Double Choc Cake from Dunkin’ Donuts was surprised to see a shard of glass which sliced her mouth.

She expressed concern that her daughter would be buying the doughnuts after school with the possible risk of getting injured.

Facebook user Khun Giftsy, named Ms Thaipjoy, shared her experience with the members of the community page Complaint Singapore on July 20.

She explained that she had no intention of damaging the credibility of Dunkin’ Donuts, although she hoped that it would improve “so it doesn’t happen to other customers.”

Ms Thaipjoy purchased a doughnut from the Ang Mo Kio outlet and bit into it, only to spit it back out after discovering a glass shard about one centimetre in size. The glass also sliced into her mouth.

“I spit and angrily walked back to the store along with the glass piece and the doughnut piece,” she said.

However, she said she ended up waiting for almost 10 minutes as the staff talked on the phone with their manager.

The manager apologised for what happened and admitted they didn’t know how the glass shard got inside.

“Nothing sounded good other than saying sorry and refund of S$2.20.”

Ms Thaipjoy said she felt bad because her daughter would be buying doughnuts every day after school.

“Malay staff speak Malay language. I can not understand all words like I’m lying,” she pointed out. “This time, I was still lucky to spit it out in time.”

“If my daughter eats this doughnut or another child eats it. How will it be? Does anyone know where to complain? If swallowed and stuck in the intestine, who will be responsible for surgery?” she added.

Ms Thaipjoy said in an update that evening that she received an email from the company. “I will be waiting for results on how the glass come from, and I will let everyone know (sic),” she noted.

A Dunkin’ Donuts representative told AsiaOne that outlets don’t use glass utensils in their kitchen or stores.

The company is currently investigating the incident. They also reached out to Ms Thaipjoy to apologise and asked for a copy of her medical report and bill. /TISG
