At least 40 people have been killed in a bomb blast today at 6.15am local time, near the Uranus Wedding Hall in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul. According to police spokesman Basir Mujahid, over 60 people were injured, as well.

The attack unfolded as the nation celebrated Prophet Mohammed’s birthday. According to the local press, the targets of a bomb blast were the organisers and attendees who participated in a religious gathering commemorating the holiday.

According to the BBC, a Government spokesman has said that early reports suggest the blast could be the work of a suicide bomber.

No individuals or groups have claimed responsibility for the terror attack, as yet.
