Ex-President S R Nathan in critical condition after stroke

The Prime Minister’s Office announced earlier today that the former president of Singapore, Mr S R Nathan suffered a stroke today (31 July) morning. The statement said that he is currently in critical condition and is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

This is a second stroke for Mr Nathan. He suffered one in April 2015 as well.

Mr Nathan is the longest serving elected President of the Republic, and served for 12 years from 1999 to 2011.
