Kuala Lumpur ― Malaysian quartet Dolla are the latest Malaysian artists to grace a billboard in Times Square, New York City.

As reported by SAYS via a press release by Universal Music Malaysia, the girl group recently made an appearance on Spotify’s New York Times Square Billboard in the United States.

Dolla is made up of members Sabronzo, Tabby, Syasya and Angel. The group was given the honour of appearing on the billboard as they were picked to represent Malaysian singers in the streaming platform’s EQUAL campaign.

“EQUAL is a global programme by Spotify which aims to foster equity for women in audio and nurturing equity by highlighting female artists around the world,” the press release said.

“There are currently 35 local EQUAL playlists covering artists from over 50 countries — with Dolla being on the cover as a representative from EQUAL Malaysia and Singapore’s playlists.”

A tagline that reads “Women at full volume” can be seen before Dolla’s appearance in a clip showing the billboard. Filipino singer Kiana V and Thai singer Earth Patravee joined Dolla on the billboard.

Dolla debuted with their hit single Dolla Makes You Wanna. In 2020, they released an English version of their second single Watch Me Glow.

“Impikan (Dolla’s second Malay-language single) had a million views on YouTube in less than two weeks and gained widespread media attention locally and internationally as well within the [Southeast Asia] region and Korea,” Universal Music Malaysia said.

When fans discovered that Dolla graced the billboard in Times Square, thousands of them celebrated on social media by posting photos of the group and its billboard feature.
