A viral video that shows the aftermath of pedestrian being struck by a falling air-conditioner condenser unit has gained renewed traction online and has been circulating on Facebook and WhatsApp recently.

In the video, a badly injured man can be seen lying on the pavement right outside the HDB block’s void deck area as emergency personnel prepare to move the injured man onto a stretcher.

An ambulance can be seen with its doors open nearby, waiting to receive the injured man who appears unable to walk, as a mangled Mitsubishi Electric air conditioner can be seen lying near the man:

Careful when you walk below a block of flats as things can fall from above. This happened in Tampines.

While many netizens sharing the video appear to believe that the incident occurred recently, the incident actually occurred a year ago, in June 2017. Despite this, it appears that the video is making a comeback online.

According to HDB rules, homeowners can be fined up to S$5,000 and/or be jailed for up to six months if air-conditioners are improperly installed, under the Building Control Act.

Homeowners can also be slapped with a maximum $10,000 fine and/or a maximum 1-year jail term of, if the air-conditioner falls due to lack of maintenance. This rule falls under the Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act (BMSMA).
