Facebook page Roads.sg shared the video of an accident involving an e-biker and a tipper truck in the Collyer Quay area. The page in crediting the video to Kelvin Lim said that the accident happened this morning and that the driver of the truck has been arrested.
The e-biker, a 62-year-old man was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were notified of the collision at around 10.30am and that investigations are ongoing.
This is the second prominent accident involving e-bikers and trucks in recent months. On 27 Oct, two e-bikers also had a fatal accident with another trailer truck on West Coast Highway near Pandan Crescent.
Member of Parliament for Mountbatten and Transport government parliamentary committee member Lim Biow Chuan had previously noted that some users of power-assisted devices may be trying them out for the first time.
Mr Lim called for all road users to be more careful and considerate and especially appealed to heavy vehicle drivers: “Whether you’re right or wrong (in an accident), you can cause a lot of harm.”
