What do you do when you see an overturned lorry on an expressway which is holding up traffic? Roll-up your sleeves and pitch in to help move the vehicle to one side? That is exactly what a troupe of lion dancers, bus passengers and motorists did this Valentine’s Day.
The accident happened at around 6pm and the overturned lorry was holding up traffic on both lanes of the entrance at the Zhenghua Flyover of the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE).
A video posted by Facebook user Nithi Ram showed a lion dance troupe and other motorists spontaneously stepping forward to help move the lorry to one side despite the heavy rain.
On the way to volunteer for River Hong Bao, I encountered an accident at Zhenghua Flyover, Bukit Panjang entrance to BKE towards PIE around 6 pm. Many people ran down to lend a helping hand to clear the accident. Apparently, the accident was caused due to the heavy rain and this caused a lorry to skid and it got overturned which blocked both the lanes that lead to BKE. Traffic Police arrived at the scene. Following this, a lion dance group, were also stuck at the jam. The lion dancers and commuters from Bus Service 960 and 972 ran down from their vehicles to help push the overturned lorry, to allow the traffic to pass through. My Brother Arunraj Ram also left the car to offer a helping hand .They managed to push the lorry, within minutes. Who knows? If everyone was Self-Centred, the traffic jam would have lasted a Long time to be cleared.

Nithi was on his way to volunteer at the River Hongbao with the rest of her family when the accident occurred. His brother also got down from the car to give a helping hand.
Nithi’s sister, Rose Priya, speaking to a local newspaper said that passengers from bus services 960 and 972 also alighted from their buses to help out. The lorry was moved to the side so as to allow traffic to flow in mere minutes, she said.
“It was quite heart-warming to see everyone pitching in to help move the lorry. If nobody had bothered, all the vehicles would still have been stuck,” Rose said.
The lorry driver was not hurt and the Singapore Civil Defence Force said that its assistance was not required.
