A Housing and Development Board (HDB) resident aired her frustrations as she has been waiting for months for an update on the excess moisture issue in her toilet.

“Still waiting after months of no response. I guess the Chinese New Year going to be in this state again,” wrote the Facebook group Complaint Singapore member on Nov 22. The resident admitted she had already stopped using her common toilet due to the excess moisture buildup in the ceiling.

The resident said she moved into the unit 11 years ago while it was under renovation and upgrading. Within five years, stains appeared on the ceiling. “After many times of communication and leakage, I was told to wait until the last CNY pieces started to come out.”

However, almost a year passed, and the resident confirmed there were no updates on a resolution.

The homeowner tried addressing the issue and scraped off some of the affected areas, but it got to a point where she had to call in a professional. “Consensus was an exterior contractor via HDB, and then we can do a cheap version, or the expensive permanent version was ½ me and ½ upper floor,” she said.

She also said she was about to have a guest over but the condition of her toilet wasn’t acceptable.

Netizens suggested reporting the situation to HDB because it was a leaking problem on the unit above.

Facebook user Sha Adam said he was on the same boat and waiting already two years for an update, while another resident said she waited six months. Others confirmed that the final costs would most probably be split between the two units. However, not all upper-floor residents are willing to pay to renovate.

“You can’t do much as it really relies on the top neighbour to carry out the repair work, and I know a lot of people will not want to pay for it,” said Facebook user CM Ee. /TISG
