Singapore at the Winter Olympics

No kidding. There is a Singapore Olympian at the  Winter Games in Beijing.

You may not recognise him so readily because he’s all bundled up. But there he was in the traditional torch relay that leads to  the lighting up of the Olympic flame in China’s capital city.

And yes, he is very much a part of the Olympics. Mr Ng Ser Miang told The Independent Singapore that he has taken part in quite a few Olympic torch relays before,

Totally unacceptable: Asian university students given ang paos with hell money for CNY

Toronto – A university in Ontario, Canada, received online backlash after ang paos containing fake banknotes were distributed to the students and residents for the Chinese New Year.

“Giving hell money to a living person is a horrible act because you are conveying to the person that ‘you are dead to me’ or worse, ‘I wish you are dead,’” wrote Redditor Historical-Morning18, who posted a photo of the ang pao on the platform.

Motorcyclist tailgates car to escape parking fee, pillion rider smacked by gantry arm

Singapore – Karma hit fast for a rider of a Malaysia-registered motorcycle who tried evading parking fees by tailgating an exiting vehicle. The gantry arm was caught on camera closing on the pillion rider.

Facebook page SG Road Vigilante – SGRV uploaded footage of the incident said to have happened on Feb 2 at a Singapore carpark.

M’sian couple claims Hougang landlord tells them to move out after a day and wants to confiscate deposit

Singapore – A Malaysian couple was allegedly told by their landlord to move out of their rental room just a few hours after settling in; the landlord also initially refused to return their deposit and moved their belongings without permission.

Videos of the couple’s altercation with the landlord are circulating online, with netizens saying that the unit owner was trying to take advantage of the tenants.

Name of hairless vulture-like bird sparks online debate

Singapore – The specie of a hairless bird spotted in Singapore sparked an online debate, with netizens hinting it was a mini vulture.

“Does anyone know what kind of bird this is?” asked Facebook page Singapore Wildlife Sightings member Muhd Nasrullah on Saturday (Feb 5).
