New ferry service from Singapore to Desaru Coast to be launched soon

Desaru Link Ferry Services, a subsidiary of Batam Fast Ferry (Batam Fast), has been appointed to offer passenger ferry services between Singapore`s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and the newly completed Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal.

Travel Weekly Asia which first reported this news said that with this new sea route, passengers will be able to embark on a 90‐minute journey from the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, which is similar to the land route with no traffic.

S’pore doctor spots heart disease surge in men which is linked to Covid-19

Medical professionals are seeing changes in people’s health, and one disturbing change is the increase in the number diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, in the wake of the “new normal” brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Iris Koh ‘very happy’, believes she now has ‘immunity for life’ from Covid-19

It was bound to happen. And Iris Koh, arguably Singapore’s loudest and most animated evangelist against Covid-19 vaccination, sounds as if she couldn’t be happier that it has.

More than 462 million people all over the globe have tested positive for Covid-19 since the pandemic began a little over two years ago, resulting in more than six million deaths.  Researchers think that the official death toll has been largely under-reported, and actual deaths from Covid may total well over 18 million.

“Who Really Pays?” – Riders express grave concern over mandatory CPF

On the 4th of March, the government announced that it is considering compulsory contributions from employers of private-hire vehicle drivers and food delivery riders to their Central Provident Fund (CPF) accounts. The government insists that this policy change is intended to improve protection for platform workers.

Many riders are concerned about inadequate retirement savings. This is an issue that concerns all workers in Singapore. However, it is a huge leap to use this as a justification to make CPF contributions mandatory at this point. Without ensuring protection of riders’ fares from further deductions, platform companies are able to transfer the cost of compulsory CPF contributions to their workers in the form of reduced incentives or earnings.
