Singapore—In these pandemic times when everyone is forced to get creative to appreciate the joys of life, one young woman went the extra mile and celebrate her father a ribbon-cutting ceremony after he emerged from self-isolation.
“Congrats to my dad clearing 200+++ hours of isolation! HUAT AH!” wrote Singaporean TikToker @doraeling12 on Oct 16.

In her video, she captures the moment the door opens to release her dad from his separation from the family.
A bright red ribbon with a big bow can be seen strung across the door. As the door swings open, a hand comes out and gives the father a pair of scissors.
At first, he seems unsure of what’s going on.
But he quickly realises what his daughter has planned for this celebration, and with a smile, he puts down what he had in his hand hand and reaches for the scissors.
Dad is all smiles as he cuts the ribbon. The daughter comments that the look on her father’s face made her efforts worth it.
Neither she nor her father can be heard in this 15-second video, but triumphant music is played all throughout.
It was not only her father who enjoyed the ribbon-cutting surprise, as this clip has been viewed and complimented hundreds of thousands of times.
Many commenters expressed appreciation for the poster and her family, for whom she has great affection.
One commented on how clean the room was where the TikToker’s father had stayed when he self-isolated.
Another appreciated the joyful music she had chosen.
The daughter who crafted this love surprise said that she had been inspired by Senior Minister of State Amy Khor who holds the portfolio at the Transport Ministry as well as at the Sustainability and the Environment Ministry.
It must be some consolation to Dr Khor who drew flak online last November for conducting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a a new and temporary bus stop in her Hong Kah North SMC ward. /TISG
