A 30-year-old Filipino nurse, Ray Reuven Roche Carbolido, was sentenced to a 12-month jail term last Friday after pleading guilty to sexual penetration of a minor.
The court heard that Carbolido had befriended the girl on social networking site, WeChat, where he asked her whether she wanted to have sex.
The girl agreed and visited his home in Ang Mo Kio on 19 March this year, armed with a condom. The pair had sexual intercourse that night and reportedly engaged in other sexual activities.
It was also revealed that Carbolido had known the girl was only 15-years-old but had believed that their encounter was not noteworthy since it was consensual.
Following their encounter, the girl experienced discomfort in her private parts and visited KK Women and Children’s Hospital for a check-up where she was diagnosed with herpes simplex virus.
The case was reported to the police at this point and Carbolido was quickly arrested.
However, a medical examination showed that there was no evidence that Carbolido had been carrying any sexually transmitted infection.
The girl subsequently confessed that Carbolido was one of several men whom she had sexual relations with over a period of about a week this year, from March 19 to 24.
Carbolido could have been jailed for a maximum of 10 years and/or fined for having sexual intercourse with a minor.
