Singapore — A Comfort Del Gro taxi driver was caught on camera disregarding a red light, resulting in an accident involving a motorcyclist and another vehicle.
A video of a taxi slamming into other road users is circulating online, sparking another call for patience when on the road to avoid endangering others.
According to Facebook page ROADS.sg, the accident happened on Sept 8 at around 7:14 am.
The video began with motorists waiting for the lights to turn green at a junction.
When it was their turn, a motorcyclist and blue vehicle began moving across the intersection.
Soon after, the CDG taxi was spotted heading straight for the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist was sent flying over the taxi’s hood.
The taxi also crashed into the blue vehicle.
With over 57,000 views and 230 comments, members from the online community highlighted the importance of patience on the road.
“All this bloody taxi clown got no patient now you lose your job and ban from driving good some of this taxi driver are too much. Sad for the rider; his life will not be the same again. These taxi drivers must get heavy sentences,” commented Facebook user Roshan Singh.
Others noted that harsher punishments might be needed to teach errant road users a lesson.
“The taxi driver should be given jail and a lifetime ban on his driving license. Courts should be more strict in sentencing as there are too many careless drivers on the roads causing accidents every day,” said Facebook user Raymond Phillips.
“To stop all these errant drivers, some harsh (punishment) needs to be imposed. Just a fine or short ban is not effective anymore,” said Facebook user Tam Wai Seng.
Under the Road Traffic Act, drivers convicted of driving dangerously and causing grievous hurt to others may be sentenced to up to five years in jail and disqualified from driving for at least eight years.
Serious offenders convicted of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or failing to provide a breath or blood specimen can be sentenced to extra jail time up to one year, fined up to S$10,000 and disqualified from driving for at least ten years. /TISG
