Spotify, a couple of days ago (Dec 2) unveiled its annual 2021 Wrapped campaign and personalized user experience. At the same time, they’ve unveiled the top artists, albums, songs, playlists, and podcasts from the creators that helped soundtrack the year for more than 381 million users worldwide.

So, how did Singapore listen this year?

Showing this global phenomenon is here to stay, K-pop group BTS is Singapore’s most streamed artist in 2021 for the second year in a row. Their albums BE and Love Yourself ‘Answer’ are in the top most-streamed albums of the year, as armies of local fans couldn’t get enough of their top recordings Butter and Dynamite.
Following BTS was Canadian pop icon Justin Bieber as the second most streamed artist, with his hit album Justice and catchy tune Peaches (featuring Daniel Caesar & Giveon) ranking top 10 locally. Coming in third was American superstar Taylor Swift. 
Making his way to Singapore’s top most streamed local artists list for the first time is Benjamin Kheng. Mainstayer JJ Lin held his position as the top streamed local artist, followed by Gentle Bones who climbed to second.
Mandopop held its spot as one of the most popular genres in Singapore. The Taiwanese “King of Mandopop” Jay Chou was the fourth most streamed artist in 2021, making it to Singapore’s top artists list for five consecutive years. Not far behind him was homegrown artist JJ Lin, who ranked seventh most streamed artist in Singapore.
In the podcast sphere, the education genre came out on top as the most streamed category followed by comedy and then society & culture. Malay podcasts gained popularity as OKLETSGO, The Podcast and MALAM SERAM clinched three out of the top five spots.
