Son lashes out at 72-year-old father over rental income, beating him with remote control

SINGAPORE: A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to 21 months in jail after attacking his 72-year-old father with a remote control and stomping on his chest during a dispute over rental income, leaving the elderly man with fractures to his forehead and two ribs, as reported by Shin Min Daily News.

Further investigations revealed that the father agreed to rent out a bedroom in their home to increase their income. The suspect, who suspected that his father was keeping all of their income to himself, flew into a rage and began throwing things around their house in frustration.

The father wanted to stop the attacks, but the suspect grabbed a remote control and repeatedly struck his father’s head with it. The father then fell to the ground as he backed away, giving the suspect an opportunity to stomp him hard on his chest. 

Fortunately, the father had the opportunity to escape when the suspect went to the kitchen, and he immediately called the police. When the authorities arrived at the scene, the father was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was diagnosed with fractures of two ribs on his left side and his frontal bone, as well as a scalp laceration.

The son now faces one charge of intentional grievous bodily harm and one charge of reckless conduct endangering the life of another. He then pleaded guilty to one of the charges, and the other is yet to be considered by the judge.  He was sentenced to 21 months in jail on Thursday morning (Aug 20).

In a related case, a 36-year-old man broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home to retrieve his gaming console before becoming aggressive after finding another man there. He assaulted the man, leaving him with a fractured thumb, and now faces charges including assault and trespassing.
