Mei Tan, a diner at Koh Grill & Sushi Bar, was appalled to find several bugs crawling in a chilli powder container at the Wisma Atria restaurant over the weekend.

Beware of the bugs inside the chilli powder container… So yucky. We already sprinkled some into our ramen.

The bugs can first be seen from the 1:05 mark in the video above when the diners opened the lid to find three bugs wriggling about in the underside of the lid. They soon discovered more insects in the powder and called the staff for assistance.

Tan claims that she and her companions had already sprinkled the chilli powder over their ramen generously before they discovered the creepy-crawlies. Their meal was reportedly replaced soon after but they did not request a refund.

According to the Koh Grill & Sushi Bar management, this is the first time such a thing has occurred at their establishment. They reportedly tried to contact Tan on Facebook but did not receive a response.

Nevertheless, a spokesperson said that the group plans to instate the following measures to prevent such incidents from re-occurring in the future:

  • All chilli powder in the restaurant were disposed of, although no bugs were turned up during further checks;
  • A new batch of chilli powder was ordered; and
  • New, transparent containers for the chilli powder were purchased.
