Malaysia ― It is not easy to obtain clothes for each project, and it is a problem faced by actors and actresses, especially in television dramas.
According to Sepet and Gubra actress Sharifah Amani, actors and actresses were often required to provide their own wardrobes and expected to find sponsors for their clothes.
“It is 2021, yet we still have to find sponsors for our clothes or purchase them ourselves. No wonder you often see actors and actresses wearing the same outfits for different dramas,” said Amani in a tweet recently.
“The reality is, not all of us can afford to purchase new outfits. Not all of us can hire stylists and wardrobe teams.
“And furthermore, production companies are also struggling with small budgets.
“This is a longstanding problem that has yet to be resolved.”
The actress feels that production companies should not be blamed for this problem. Instead, everyone in the showbiz industry should work together to come up with a new mechanism to improve the quality of local dramas, reported New Straits Times.
“Many of us are trying our best to fix the system that has long been broken. It is not that we cannot or do not want to give our best. There are some things in the system that really need to be improved, so that we can all move forward, and the difficulty of getting our own clothes is one of them,” said Amani.
Born Jun 10, 1986, Sharifah Amani binti Syed Zainal Rashid Al-Yahya, better known by her stage name Sharifah Amani, is a Malaysian actress. She is best known for her role as Orked in the films of Sepet and Gubra.
She is the second daughter of veteran Malaysian actress, Fatimah Abu Bakar. Sharifah is of Malay-Chinese-Arab-Bengali parentage and speaks fluent English, Malay and some Hindi.
As a teenage writer for the New Straits Times YouthQuake slot, Amani covered assignments like the Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla press conference, concerts by Bollywood stars, Deep Purple and the 3rd IIFA Awards in Genting Highlands.
