A 36-year-old woman from Dallas, Texas has been left fighting for her life, having sustained severe brain damage after a nose job surgery she underwent at a plastic surgery clinic in Mexico went south.

The patient, Laura’s Avila’s devastated sister Angie told the press that doctors who were performing the nose job surgery that cost about USD $1800 injected anesthesia into Laura’s spine, which went to her brain instead of flowing through her body.

Distraught, Laura’s family revealed that she suffered seizures and cardiac arrest after the operation and that she was temporarily put in a medically induced coma to prevent further brain damage.

The family have now been given the option to remove Laura from life support, although they are unwilling to give up hope. Speaking to ABC 7, Angie said: “As a family we need to decide whether we want to remove her from life-support. We cry every single day and I think, right now, we’re just shocked and don’t want to believe it’s true, you know.”

Laura’s fiance Enrique Cruz told the press: “No matter what happens I want her to know I have a special place my heart.”

Angie says that while doctors have thrown their hands up, her family is trying to transfer Laura to a hospital in North Texas that has better facilities. The family has started a GoFundMe page to get financial aid for Laura’s treatment.

The fundraising page revealed: “Physicians recently began to slowly remove medications to take her out of the coma. However due to brain lesions, it is too soon to know the state she will be in from the damage she has sustained until she awakens.

“Laura is still in critical condition. She is currently experiencing seizures as an indication of brain injury. She had been in an Intensive Care Unit in Mexico for six days before we were allowed to get her back to the U.S.

“In the event that she wakes up, it is likely she will need to begin physical therapy and rehabilitation for an unforeseen period of time.”
