The restaurant, headed by Argentina-born chef Mauro Colagreco, has recently achieved its three Michelin star status. His unique cuisine recalls the flavours of the sea, the mountains and the restaurant’s own gardens, including the citrus fruits Menton is known for producing.

Highlights from Mirazur’s tasting menu include salt-crusted beetroot from the garden with caviar cream, fresh eggs from the chicken coop with smoked eel and hazelnuts and a brioche of potatoes with melting egg and white truffle.

Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark, known for coining “New Nordic” cuisine, took second place on the coveted list.

When he first opened Noma, chef René Redzepi developed an entirely new genre of cuisine—New Nordic cookery. His style of food goes deeper than seasonality; it’s about exploring overlooked or underused foraged products, alongside an interesting study of fermentation.

Noma held the the title of The World’s Best Restaurant in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014.

Holding the title of third best restaurant in the world for 2019 is Asador Etxebarri in Axpe, Spain.

Helmed by chef Victor Arguinzoniz, Asador Etxebarri is all about minimalist, accurate and artful grill cookery with the freshest and most luxurious ingredients from the Basque region of Spain. The food, said to be explosive in its flavour, is perfectly grilled over an open hearth.

About the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, which has been compiled every year since 2002, reflects the diversity and boldness of the world’s culinary landscape. It also serves as a tool for tracking current gastronomic trends around the world.

A panel of more than 1,000 culinary experts serve as judges who put together the list every year. The list is then unveiled at an annual awards ceremony held in a different city each year.

This year, Singapore proudly hosted the awards ceremony for the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and in 2020, it will be Belgium’s turn to host the gastronomic event./TISG
