Woman does dirty dancing in front of elderly woman for TikTok video challenge, sparks online backlash

Singapore — A woman, likely a foreign domestic worker, has sparked online backlash for recording herself doing a dirty dancing TikTok video in front of an elderly woman.

A video tagged as “demeaning and insensitive” is making rounds on social media.

A woman filmed herself thrusting her hips in a dirty dancing motion beside an elderly woman whom she was reportedly tasked to take care of.

On Oct 22, Facebook page Singapore Incidents shared the video, believed to have been uploaded on short video creation app TikTok originally.

It showed the young woman doing the #gunshotdancechallenge, which is trending in the Philippines and other countries.

It features TikTokers dancing to Bryan Adams’ song “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” mixed with gunshot sound effects.

The woman, who appeared to be in her 20s, gyrated her hips in the video, which is a common dance move linked to the challenge.

Throughout the video, the elderly woman looked like she was unaware of what was happening and did not react to her dancing.

At the end of the video, the young woman stepped over the legs of the elderly woman who remained seated.

In response to the video, members from the online community said the young woman’s actions were unacceptable, adding she should be dismissed immediately.

“There are so many maids posting such videos on TikTok. I really wish the authorities will or could do something about it,” commented Facebook user Dewi Istimewa.

“Really disgusting and disrespectful. If you have any elderly living alone with a helper – please keep a close watch on them,” the concerned individual warned.

“Very rude and disrespectful to the Ah Ma; she shouldn’t be doing that,” said another netizen.

“Please! If you don’t like the work, then don’t work. If you need money, then work properly,” added Facebook user Thirtynine Weather.

“Hopefully, this video will reach to her employer and relatives; shame on her….no respect!” said Facebook user Ruat Sangi.
