Mediacorp’s annual Amarkala Deepavali countdown show returns this year for a celebration with live audiences for the first time since 2019.

The special begins at 10:00 pm on Sunday, Oct 23, and will be held at The Theatre at Mediacorp on One-North Avenue. Tickets are free, with more information found here.

“With the greatest number of Deepavali related songs, performances ranging from the 80’s to current hits, electrifying dance performances and magnificent sets, Deepavali 2022 is set to bring the celebratory mood right to you!” 

Helping usher in the Festival of Lights, are over 100 hosts and performers, including popular Vasantham artists Karthikeyan Somasundaram and Udaya Soundari together with Malaysian personality Aanantha Rajaram.

Joining them are the energetic duo Thavanesan and Sajini Naidu, bringing the live action of the celebrations at Little India to audiences.

Musical performances by Vasantham singers Vishnu Balaji, Suthasini, Elamaran Natarajan, V. Suriamurthi, Annetha Ayyavoo, are also included in the night’s line-up, as well as dances from Freaky Fresh, Rameshwara RSGM, NUS Naach, Chitrakala Arts and more.

There will also be special performances from the champion and first runner-up of Malaysia’s talent competition series Big Stage Tamil, Arulini Arumugam and Roshini Balachandran, respectively.

Other highlights of the night include a special narrative-driven performance on positivity and harmony from singer-songwriter Shabir, as well as a semi-classical dance performance by child performers of Chitrakala Arts and a theatrical performance by stage performers from AVANT Theatre.

Mediacorp added that an exciting array of content will be shown on Vasantham over five days of non-stop celebrations, beginning on Oct 21.

These include a biographical drama on the life of world-renowned mathematician Shakuntala Devi, a sports action film based on the story of India’s first world cup victory, 83, and a romance-comedy narrating the dilemma of a man who falls in love with two women, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal.

In addition, the telemovie The Jambulingams will also be shown, as well as the musical dance game show with fan-favourite guest celebrities Vidumurai Attagasam, and call-in live show asanthathin Kondattam, where viewers can request songs, make wishes and play quiz games to win prizes. /TISG
