A video of a man caning and kicking a boy while yelling at him for staying out late stepfather in a Bukit Batok flat has been going viral online. According to Facebook page Rilek1Corner, the incident occurred within a flat in Bukit Batok Street 21.

The page administrator shared: “Young stepdad caught disciplining child with rotan while shouting vulgarities at him. The mother looks helpless and only managed to record the incident. OMG the child is so terrified of being beaten up… hope he is ok.”

The video, which can be viewed here, contains explicit content. Viewer discretion is advised.

In the video, the stepfather can be heard scolding the boy with vulgarities, as a woman believed to be the boy’s mother steps in. The child can be heard sobbing and speaking incomprehensibly throughout the exchange:

Man: How many times have I told you? You still do it. You still want to do some more? I can whack you, I can whack you, I can whack you.
Woman: That’s enough. Why are you (child) like this?
Man: I still can whack you, let me tell you that.
Woman: That’s enough.
Man: You think I’m playing with you?
Woman: That’s enough!
Man: Don’t challenge me, I’m telling you. Don’t play with me, pukim*k. I’ve told you many times. I’ve told you many times, how many times have I told you? How many times have I told you? How many times have I told you? Is it not entering your brain? Is it not entering your brain? Where’s your brain? Where’s your brain? Eh, you come here. I’ve went down your school many times, you pukim*k. You said you will change, you still have not changed. When can you change? When? When can you change? When? When can you change? Faster, I asked you a question. How many times? How many times?
Man: when will you change? I’m telling you, don’t test my patience. I’ve always been patient. Now you will answer me, when will you change? Let me ask you, when you stay back (in school), what do you do? When you stay back, what do you want to ask?
Man: How many times? How many times? Nowadays, you’re always busy with your phone and earpiece. People call you, you don’t know how to answer. How many times now?

Facebook has covered the video since it may show violence against a child or teenager. The social media giant informed users that it hasn’t removed the video since it may help the boy.

Meanwhile, the video – which has garnered about 15,000 views so far – has triggered a debate among netizens about whether it was right for the stepfather to act in such a manner. Even as some netizens felt that what was captured in the video is outright child abuse, others have expressed that there is nothing wrong with a parent disciplining their child:
