A Malaysian man living in Singapore has been sentenced to 4 months in jail for insulting the modesty of his own biological daughter after he was caught filming her while she was naked in the washroom.

The man and his victim cannot be named due to a court order.

The 21-year-old girl caught her 48-year-old father secretly filming her as she was bathing after she spotted his phone on video recording mode, tied to a pipe below the sink basin.

When confronted, the man, who has since been diagnosed of depression, admitted that he had been recording her in the shower for the past two weeks and that he had amassed 20 such videos.

The daughter angrily deleted all the videos on the man’s phone and left her flat at Toh Yi Drive in Bukit Timah to stay with a coworker. The man was arrested around 3.10am on 5 April 2017 after he attempted suicide at Block 840, Jurong West Street 81.

The court considered a second charge of threatening his daughter that he would jump off a parapet during sentencing.

A second charge of using threatening words and behaviour towards his daughter by saying that he wanted to jump down while having his arms and left leg on the parapet was taken into consideration during sentencing.

The man could have been jailed for up to 12 months and/or fined for insulting the modesty of a woman.
