Singapore’s Transport Minister said in Parliament yesterday that the government will match Malaysia’s road charges for Singapore vehicles which use the road links between the two countries. Malaysia rolled out a RM20 (S$6.50) road charge on 1 Nov last year.

“We have a long-standing policy of matching any levy, tolls or fees charged by Malaysia for using the road links between Singapore and Malaysia,” said Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan.

Adding: “This is to ensure that Malaysia takes into consideration our response whenever they raise their tolls or introduce a new levy.”

He said that Malaysia collected about RM13.9 million (S$4.47 million) in road charges from Singapore vehicles between 1 Nov and 20 Dec last year, and that more details of the matching charge would be announced soon.
