Heavy rain on eve of Christmas causes flooding in MRT trains and many parts of Singapore

The National Environment Agency (NEA) announced earlier today that heavy rain was expected over many areas of Singapore from 4.40pm to 6pm. Twitter page SG Alert shared updates of several accidents and flash floods all across the island.

Several social media users also shared posts and pictures of how they were affected by the heavy downpour on the eve of Christmas.Twitter user seanwantchicken shared a picture of a flooded road in Paya Lebar. He captioned his picture: “Singapore no snow on the ground but got flood.”

Channel NewsAsia reporting on the flash floods published a picture of one of its readers taken in Upper Thomson Road.

Instagram user mixue100 shared a picture which showed that even commuters on the trains were not spared from the downpour. She captioned her picture: “Xmas shower in the train.”

This is the second day in a row where heavy downpour has affected SMRT operations. Zaobao yesterday shared a video of a leaking roof in Yishun MRT station in the North-South Line.
