A banner featuring Chee Hong Tat, MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, wishing his residents well for Hari Raya was vandalised yesterday (23 Jul) night at Toa Payoh North. A man who has served as a grassroots leaders of the constituency for over 40 years, said that something like that had not happened there before.

The suspect is described to be a short-heavy-built man and is said to be seen walking towards the Bradell MRT station after cutting the banners. Besides slashing a banner of Mr Chee wishing his residents Selamat Hari Raya, the suspect also cut three other grassroots banners.

A resident of the constituency informed grassroots leader, Johnson Foo, about the incident. Foo at first thought that banners were blown off by heavy wind. When he discovered that they were purposely destroyed, he called the police at about 9.40pm.

The Straits Times reported that police were seen putting up a cordon around two of the banners at about 10.30pm.
