It’s not every day that one stumbles upon cold hard cash at public places like a carpark. It might be a sign of good luck, but for a man who picked up an angbao filled with banknotes, it could also mean he just signed up for a ghost marriage.
A TikTok user shared his discovery on Wednesday (Aug 31), noting he was on his way to Keat Hong McDonald’s when he found somebody’s angbao.

Upon picking it up, the man opened the envelope to find a rather thick wad of S$50 and S$100 bills.
Although the man didn’t reveal if he kept the envelope or not, members of the online community had other thoughts on the symbolism of his discovery.
Netizens commented on the video and said that the man was “the chosen one” based on tradition.
“In case people don’t understand when a single girl passes away, her family will use this method to help her find her destiny husband,” explained TikTok user Jo.
“You are the selected one,” added another netizen, to which the original poster replied, “Sheesh, if somebody finally wants me.”
Another TikTok user poked fun at the matter and said, “If he picks it up but doesn’t spend and returns to the police, then is the marriage still on?”
Meanwhile, others jumped on the chance to say that the angbao was theirs and if the person who found it could return the item, although they had no way of proving the claim.
Perhaps those who are superstitious should refrain from keeping angbaos filled with money just in case, lest you be congratulated for a wedding you’re unaware of. /TISG
