Mohamad Azis Jamman has fired with immediate effect, the aide of his that was caught by CCTV cameras, filming the upskirt of a female optician who was examining his eyesight while he was at an optometry shop in Kuala Lumpur.

In a widely circulated CCTV clip that has since gone viral, dated Friday, seven September 2018 which lasted nearly two minutes, the aide was clearly seen seated nearby his boss, the Deputy Home Minster who was looking straight at an optical screen in front of him while the female optician administered the eye exam.

The brazen act of the aide taking his phone and aiming it under the skirt of the female optician to film it shocked everyone who watched the said clip. Mohamad Azis Jamman and the female optician were none the wiser as they were very much focused on the eye check-up when that horrible act was carried out.

Due and firm actions were quick and swift. Through the office of the Deputy Home Minister, Mohamad Azis Jamman, issued a formal statement and it was shared on his official Facebook account. In the statement, the Deputy Home Minsters shared with the public that he was aware of the incident that happened while he was undergoing an eye exam.
He took very seriously the repercussions of his subordinate’s wrongdoing which happened in secret and without his knowledge.

Further, he reiterated his disgust and strong objections to the filming and had decided to take strong actions against the guilty subordinate.
He had decided to terminate, with immediate effect the employment of that aide because he had jeopardized the image and credibility of the office of the Deputy Home Minister.

The statement ended with the Deputy Home Minister apologizing for his former aide’s actions and reassurance to the public that it had nothing to do with the rest of the employees that worked for him.

On Monday, 10 September, the Royal Malaysian Police confirmed to the press that they have received a formal report of said incident. Mazlan Lazim, Chief of Police for Kuala Lumpur says the incident was now investigated as a case under Section 509 and Section 14 Small Offences Act 1955 (Act 336) for offences which uses words or signals with intention to shame.

The Police Chief of Kuala Lumpur advised the public not to further circulate the said CCTV video of the incident as it was now being formally investigated by the police. Anyone with information that could possibly assist in the case should contact the Sentul Police headquarters.

Since cliching federal authority from Najib Razak’s Barisan Nasional in May, the newly elected Pakatan Harapan coalition government has been seen as dealing with corruption, misdeeds and rumours rather swiftly. As with this case, a suspected anti-Pakatan Harapan Facebook user had tried to drag the Deputy Home Minister himself as the perpetrator of the upskirt filming. Mohamad Azis Jamman quoted that Facebook page on his Twitter account to defend himself. He asked to refer to his official statement and he trusted the relevant authorities to handle the case without fear or favour.
Check out @AzisJamman’s Tweet:

The Malaysian public is certainly very pleased that the government and the police are managing such sensitive issues with swift professional efficiency and public consideration. This is important to restore trust and confidence in key government agencies whose image has been left quite unchecked by the previous government.
