Mother of 15-year-old who died after a suffering from bout of severe diarrhoea since returning from a school trip in China, has ended her life by jumping off from the high-rise flat in which she lives reported Shin Min Daily news.
It was reported in November last year that Luke Chan suffered from diarrhoea after coming back from an excursion to Shanghai in China. Luke was the only student from the school who fell ill after the trip. The parents of the 15-year-old student of Catholic High School delayed taking him to consult the doctor immediately, as they assumed it was not a critical illness.
But on 7 Nov 2015, Luke passed out in the toilet and was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he died the next day. The parents were reportedly devastated by the death of their son. They described their only son to be a smart boy who had won multiple scholarships and bursaries.
Lianhe Wanbao reported at that time that the boy’s mother, Chan Mingli aged 44, was wracked with guilt because she did not rush him to hospital immediately when he first started vomiting.
She tragically decided to end her life almost 6-months after her son’s death by slashing her wrists and jumping to death from her HDB flat on the 4th floor of Sin Ming Road.
