New report says higher salaries in SG are on the horizon

SINGAPORE: The most recent Salary Guide report from Morgan McKinley, a worldwide professional services recruitment consultancy, shows that the majority of companies in Singapore found hiring to be competitive over the past year, and many are preparing better salary packages for the coming year.

The report shows that 72 per cent of employers plan on increasing salary offers in 2024 for specific roles that are hard to fill. On the part of the employees who took part in the study, 60 per cent said they’re optimistic that they’ll receive an increase in 2024.

A considerable 80 per cent of employers in Singapore who participated in the study characterized hiring as “very” or “quite” competitive last year. They said that the following were the top reasons: lack of skilled candidates available, no budget to hire, no sign-off for new headcount, employer branding not attractive, and pay and benefits not competitive enough.

”Despite a significant slowdown in hiring from the post-pandemic highs in Singapore, recruitment for top talent is still happening – but it has been difficult. Apprehension from jobseekers, the widening skills shortage due to international talent leaving the region, and increased hiring process length deterring candidates each played a role in this,” said Mr Gurj Sandhu, the Managing Director of Morgan McKinley Singapore.

Mr Sandhu warned, “Only time will tell whether we see a surge of movement in 2024, like the ‘Great Resignation’ of 2021. However, if employees are not taken care of now, they will let this be known with their feet.”

The study also shows that Almost two-fifths of employers said that in the past six months, they’ve lost out on hiring new talent because they could not offer competitive salaries and benefits. Also, 44 per cent said that they expected a ‘lack of skilled candidates available’ would be the biggest recruitment challenge for 2024.

On the other hand, on the part of the employees, nearly two-thirds reported not being very happy with their salaries. Sixty-three per cent said they were either ‘neutral’, ‘dissatisfied’ or ‘highly dissatisfied’ with their pay and benefit packages.

“Offering strong benefits, both financial and non-financial, increases your chance of attracting and retaining top talent,” the study noted, adding that employees’ top five wants are: Top 5 most desired benefits: Bonus, Work from home, Flexible working hours: Flexi-start, flexi-finish, Health and wellbeing benefits and support and Health insurance.

Four out of ten employees, on the other hand, are planning to actively look for new jobs in the next six months, with 43% citing ‘higher salary’ as the most valued reason for wanting to move jobs, followed by ‘career growth and development opportunities’ at 14%. 60% of employees are optimistic about receiving a salary increase in 2024, with 72% of employers planning to increase salary offers in 2024 for certain in-demand roles.

Other benefits employees in Singapore are seeking include bonuses, the ability to work from home, flexible working hours, health and wellbeing support, as well as health insurance.

If they say they can’t or won’t commit please believe them. Don’t try to change them or thing you’re the one. Dump them unless you’re prepared to wait forever.

  1. The player

The serial cheater, the player. It is exactly as it sounds, no matter how charming or debonair this person appears to be, you don’t want to be the one who is convinced that he will change for you no matter how many times he says it. They are not interested in a serious relationship and simply love playing the field and all the attention that entails.

  1. The narcissist

This person is so in love with themselves everything and everyone else is a waste of time for them although at first they will go all out to love bomb you until you are hooked. There is simply no room for you or your needs as they are way to obsessed with themselves.

  1. The flake

Although the stereotype is that women can be flaky it applies to men as well. Someone who is flaky often has no principles or the ability to make a stand on anything and that’s the last thing you want. They just swing wherever the wind blows and having a relationship with them, needless to say is going to be so trying and exhausting in every way.

It’s no secret that Luka Doncic creates court magic practically every time he steps onto the court. Touted as one of the league’s most excellent and versatile players, the 24-year old Slovenian sensation is a force to be reckoned with on the court, even rivaling four-time NBA Champion and two-time MVP Stephen Curry.

This time, however, he went one step further, setting a new NBA record just one week into the season. He achieved remarkable results in the Mavs’ opening three games, achieving a record-breaking three-consecutive 30 point-triple-doubles, making him only the third player in NBA history to accomplish this feat.

Doncic: ‘I think I’ve been better’

When asked about the reason for his strong play, Doncic said, “I don’t know. I think it’s just pushing the pace.”

“I think I’ve been better, participating much better on the defensive end. Outside of this game, getting my low turnovers. Today, I had like three in a row in the third quarter. That’s unacceptable. Those are two things I know I need to get better at,” Doncic said, according to Forbes.

He further suggested that the improvement in his shooting performance this season may have been attributed to his legs, saying, “Just my legs, you know. Just getting lower in the shot, letting it go. Just trying to make the shot.”

To top it off, Doncic also currently holds the lead in the NBA in points per game (PPG), averaging 39.

Under NBA Central’s post, numerous basketball fans expressed their delight at Doncic’s success, claiming that he is definitely off to a blazing start this season.

One fan wrote, “wow! Luka doncic is on fire this season! it’s amazing watching players like him turn the game into an art form. 🏀.”

While another fan added, “spectacular performance! luka doncic’s skills on the court always leave us on the edge of our seats. Keep lighting up the scoreboard, champ!”

One fan also noted that his recent spectacular performance could be because of Kyrie Irving’s veteran leadership.

Every term, you hear the same thing almost. This election will be the most impactful, pivotal (inject adjective of choice) ever, but this time around, it really will change the course of the United States in many ways, depending on who gets elected.

Co-founder of Third Way, a national think-tank that champions center-left ideas, Matt Bennett believes that this cycle, who is elected, will leave the nation either in danger or not. The closest time an election was pivotal was during the Civil War, 1865.

In a podcast titled The New Abnormal with Danielle Moodie, “I believe that if this election goes wrong – that if we return Donald Trump to power – we are going to live in a country that will become unrecognisable to us in very short order,” he said.

He also spoke about the 1968 elections when Americans elected Nixon to power, saying that although Nixon was a bad president and a bad person, he does not hold a candle to Donald Trump in that respect because Donald Trump is much worse.

“I think a second Trump administration would make the Nixon administration look like he was Abraham Lincoln,” he said.

Bennett says the difference is that Trump now knows how “the levers of power work in the White House” and that he will appoint sycophants around him who will carry out his orders and fail to hold him accountable.

“I think most importantly, the sole emphasis that he places on having loyal lickspittle toadies around him, rather than people like General Mattis – that would be the true catastrophe,” he says.

According to the latest study by Pew Research Center, the state of the nation’s politics finds no single focal point for the public’s dissatisfaction. There is widespread criticism of the three branches of government, both political parties and political leaders and candidates for office.

The controversial topic of trans women entering female sports is at an all-time high. This began when Riley Gaines started a campaign to preserve women’s sports after she tied with Lia Thomas. However, this has received mixed reviews from both liberals and conservatives, as some agree that trans women should compete with biological women, but others do not.

According to the National Review, Nine Republican governors are urging the NCAA to revise its policies and prohibit male athletes from participating in women’s sports, asserting that such policies are misguided and unfair. They argue that allowing men to compete against women unjustly takes recognition away from exceptional female athletes.

Furthermore, the letter cites scientific evidence supporting biological differences between males and females in athletic performance. The governors contend that federal inaction necessitates state-level defence of women’s sports fairness. They reference specific cases, like Riley Gaines and Lia Thomas, as examples of the consequences of these policies.

Conservatives agree with nine governors wanting to preserve women’s sports 

Out of the 50 governors, it appears only 9 support this idea. However, X users state that this is to preserve the rights of women who want to enter sports. They need to receive protection as their transgender counterparts may have a stronger build than them. The current rules for a trans participant are very loose.

In addition to this, others state that all the governors should support this idea as it is a matter of human rights. They question what kind of country they are living in that does not want to protect the rights of women who’d want to play in sports. Furthermore, there seems to be a lack of argument from the woke side.

Feminists like Riley Gaines are gaining momentum as this is being discussed. Feminist organisations are stating that she is defending the rights of women as she believes that non-binary and trans individuals should not enter into women’s sports. There are some who suggest that the trans individuals have their own sports categories as it might be a more even playing field for them.

Donald Trump spent the early morning hours on his blog Truth Social dissing the judge in his trial despite a gag order not to say anything. He ranted about Judge Arthur Engoron, saying, “leave my children alone.”

In the wee hours of the morning, at 2.28 am to be precise, he wrote on Truth Social, “This Rigged Trial, brought by the Racist New York State A.G Letitia James before Trump and developer Hating Judge, Arthur Engoron, which should have never been brought in that the so-called STAR WITNESS, SleazeBag Lawyer (for many people) Michael Cohen, admitted last week on the stand that he LIED.

“This Fake Case should be dismissed… there is no Victim (except me). Leave my children alone, Engoron. You are a disgrace to the legal profession!”

Trump’s other child, Eric, will take the stand tomorrow, while Ivanka will testify next week.

Trump’s demands for loyalty starting to backfire

Trump seems to expect everyone to be loyal to him but his demands are never reciprocal. According to Rolling Stone magazine, former Trump confidants in Fulton Country Georgia, federal criminal problems and legal advisers all say that Trump’s willingness to throw them under the bus has made them very focused on self-preservation.

Trump seems to be looking for fall guys who would take the blame for him and go to jail just to protect him.

One former Trump administration official said in an interview with special counsel Jack Smith’s office. “If I went to jail for Donald Trump, if I did that, what would that do for me and my family? I don’t think he would even give us a lifetime Mar-a-Lago memberships if I did that for him.”

Trump’s former attorney Jenna Ellis posted on X in August that she was “reliably informed that Trump isn’t funding any of us who are indicted. Why isn’t [the pro-Trump Super Pac] MAGA, Inc. funding everyone’s defense?”.
