Singapore — A petition was filed on the change.org platform asking for a re-take of this year’s N-level English exam, which, based on many accounts, had an audio portion that was difficult to understand.

The petition was started by Timothee Junxiang on Sept 13 and is addressed to the Ministry of Education Singapore Examinations and Assessments Board.”

“The audio for the LC was muffled and students could not apprehend what they were saying. Tried asking the teachers to raise the volume and it did not work but made the audio even more muffled.

Repeatedly tried to tell the teachers the problems but the problem was not rectified. It seems to be a nationwide problem where all students are facing technical error from the audio and they posted their feelings and comments on Reddit,” the petition read.

As of Wednesday afternoon (Sept 15), over 1,000 people had signed the petition, with commenters who claimed to have taken the exam explaining why.

One mum also chimed in concerning her son’s experience.

On the same day, u/Frequent-Pop-3356 started an “Exam Megathread” on Reddit, which many have responded to.

The Redditor wrote that they had taken the N-level English listening comprehension on Monday.

“idk if it’s just me or like the recordings were VERY muffled and the accents were horrendous. like hello? Swedish accent? and like the first girl who talked about the lagoon. hello your tongue kena bite off by shark when u surfing ah cannot talk properly??”

They added that they raised their hand “right after the first extract,” along with several others who also had difficulty with the audio.

“then the dude infront increase the volume. like bro.. i’m not deaf. it’s the damn accent i cannot hear, all you are doing is increasing the volume which makes me hear the muffled sounds on a louder volume.

idk if it’s me or like anyone faced the same issue?”
