A foreign domestic helper took to social media asking other maids for advice after her employer ignored her requests to be compensated for her flight ticket.
In a post on Tuesday (Sept 20) to Facebook group FDW in Singapore, the helper wrote that she had been in Singapore for 12 years and was currently working for her third employer.
She added that while she had finished her 2-year contract three months ago, she did not wish to go home. She added that she reminded her boss of this face, but was ignored by her employer.
“I don’t want always remind her.. I know it’s difficult to please her about money but it’s contract stated that they need to pay if helper not to wish to go home”, the maid wrote.
Here’s what other helpers said:
Earlier this month, a foreign domestic helper who finished her two-year contract with an employer went on to apply for work in Europe. Because of the application process, her employer was not able to get another maid or transfer her to another employer, knowing she will not work the full 2 years.
In an anonymous post to Facebook group FDW in Singapore (working conditions forum), an employer in a difficult situation took to social media, asking others for help. She wrote that after her helper’s two-year contract, her helper notified her of her application to work in Europe.
Because of the visa application process, the helper has to be in Singapore, “But the tricky part is, the visa appointment is by drawing lots every week (like lucky draw). So nobody can tell when is date for the appointment”, the employer wrote.
