Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would probably defeat Najib Razak in a game of slap.
The reason for this is that the elderly statesman is more witty and sarcastic than the 1MDB-tainted Najib.
In his most recent retort to Najib, Mahathir compares the term ‘Malu Apa Bossku,’ coined by Najib, to a naked guy receiving a foreign dignitary and then urinating in front of the guest.
“We have been led astray by BN and Najib’s argument saying what is there to be ashamed of. As long as the leader is Malay Muslim, there is nothing to be ashamed of even if they steal money or steal chickens.
“We don’t think that it is wrong or something to be ashamed of. But think about it, one day, a foreign dignitary visits our country – a president or king visits Malaysia.
“The dignitary, in full uniform and medals, arrives in a line of honour. But our leader welcomes him, naked. What is there to be ashamed of?
“Our naked leader escorts the dignitary and halfway through the line of honour starts urinating. What is there to be ashamed? Just urinate,” says Mahathir.
‘I have no shame, I am the boss,’ which is the literal translation into English of ‘Malu Apa Bossku,’ was launched by Najib Razak after his downfall as PM in 2018.
Eliminating corruption
Following that, Najib took the moniker “Bossku” to begin a big social media campaign that garnered him the support of a substantial part of the Malaysian populace.
This, he claims, was the culture supported by the Barisan Nasional coalition and its advisory board head, Najib Razak. Mahathir stated that his party is dedicated to eliminating such a culture of legitimising corruption.
“We won’t go naked, we will be in full clothing to welcome our guest appropriately. I hope Malaysians will move away from the culture brought by Najib,” Mahathir said on the launch of his party’s manifesto in the Johor elections.
Pejuang is contesting in 42 seats and hopes it can win enough seats to make a dent in the Barisan Nasional’s vote tally.
The elections in Johor is to elect a new state assembly after the previous one was dissolved about a month ago. There are 56 seats in the Johor assembly.
Cronies
Najib had retaliated against Mahathir’s criticism, claiming that the elderly man had ordered him (Najib) to look after his buddies.
“I am grateful to him for supporting me to become prime minister, but after that, he also put pressure on me to support his cronies’ projects,” wrote Najib in a Facebook post.
“When I refused, he kicked up a fuss and started to plot with Muhyiddin Yassin to oust me in 2014, even before the 1MDB scandal became an issue.”
In response to Najib’s ‘crony’ accusations, Mahathir says the people he sought help from Najib were capable people and not cronies.
“If I had cronies, I could take care of them myself but I don’t have cronies. What I have are capable people.
“If they are incapable, you give them RM1 million, that RM1 million will disappear.
“If they have shown their ability and we help them, then they will succeed,” says Mahathir.
