Singapore ― Shane Pow, 30, reveals being at the lowest point of his life when describing his jail experience.
Pow’s drink-driving case has made headlines since Sept 2020, making it one of the most talked-about local showbiz news.
After serving time behind bars, Pow provided the public with insights into his experience.
“I was alone, without my phone, without anybody to talk to. I’ve always heard the Chinese saying – face the wall and ponder your misdeeds – but I’ve never understood it as viscerally as I did in prison because that was all I could do,” he said in Mandarin to a local media.
“I kept thinking about the bright future I had and how I single-handedly landed myself in this state, sleeping on the floor in a jail cell. I must have asked myself, ‘Why?’ a hundred times.”
Pow admitted being at the lowest point of his life then, spending his days alone with his thoughts, “going a bit crazy.”
“I would wake up 10 times in the middle of the night and wonder why the sky is still dark,” he added.
In an AsiaOne interview, Shane Pow said it was a “life-changing” turning point for him.
He added seeing things differently now.
“Having to almost lose everything that you built. For me, it’s almost like close to 10 years was quite tough.”
On Jul 14, he was sentenced to five weeks’ imprisonment, fined S$6,000, and banned from driving for five years for his second conviction of drunk driving.
Following the end of his Mediacorp contract in April this year, Pow had kept a low profile.
In June, he resurfaced on social media selling beauty products.
Pow appeared on the live stream to help sales company Mdada established by celebrity hairstylist Addy Lee and hosts Pornsak Prajakwit and Michelle Chia.
“His life is just starting out, and he has a bright future. It’d be a shame if we don’t give him a chance. He’s keen to try too, so we invited him to join us,” said Chia, referring to Pow.
He was also recently signed under the management agency of veteran actor Li Nanxing. /TISG
