Durians are not only in season but because of a bumper crop in Malaysia, many varieties of the delicious fruit are selling at excellent prices, with some vendors practically giving them away.

And so it should not come as much of a surprise that Workers’ Party Member of Parliament Jamus Lim shared photos of an “after-work durian party” for the Sengkang GRC Town Council staff that was held this week to say “thank you” for their work.

This is something that the WP team at Sengkang does regularly, Associate Professor Lim wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday (June 29).

“Every now and again, we connect with our property team folks to ensure that they are both heard and supported. Property management can be a rather thankless job, and so it is important that we uplift our #SengkangGRC town council staff, and keep their spirits up. Some ways we do so is through fun, food, and fellowship.”

He added that “calories and ‘heatiness’ notwithstanding,” this “national pastime” allowed the workers, whom he called a “key part” of #TeamSengkang “to take a breather and enjoy some off-the-clock time with their colleagues.”

Assoc Prof Lim added in a postscript that the durian party was a “neat reward” for the team, which had successfully addressed a dengue problem at Anchorvale, which is the ward he represents.

Netizens praised the MP for the appreciation expressed to the Sengkang GRC Town Council workers.

This is not the first time that workers in the ward have been given a special treat to thank them. In May, Assoc Prof Lim also wrote that Anchorvale conservancy workers were treated to a biryani lunch, the first time they were able to sit down to a meal together after COVID-19 safe distancing measures were lifted.
