Insensitive security guard chases away man helping his elderly father onto wheelchair because they stopped along a single yellow zigzag

An insensitive security guard was caught on camera telling off a man who had stopped his lorry along a single yellow zigzag line at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) on Thursday (Feb 24).

It was a rainy day that morning as one @Benedict Yeo on TikTok sent his wife to work. The dashcam on his motorbike captured the incident, which he posted on social media. As his wife stood at the drop-off to take off her raincoat, the camera captured the scene.

As Mr Yeo drove into the drop-off point at TTSH, a lorry had stopped along a single yellow zigzag line, where the driver could be seen carrying his elderly father out of the lorry and helping him onto a wheelchair. The elderly man seemed frail and did not look to be able to walk himself. As the son helped his father, his elderly mother also got out of the lorry.

A security guard nearby rudely clapped his hands to get their attention and told them that they could not park here and should have parked up ahead to alight.

“But I’m taking the wheelchair,” the man’s son could be heard saying. In the muffled audio, the security guard could be heard sounding agitated and repeating that they should have parked in front.

The man’s elderly mother apologised multiple times. The moment the elderly man was seated in the wheelchair, the security guard said: “Okay sir you please move your vehicle. Next time you remember if you want, go in front”. He added that the man was blocking the way and insisted that he should have gone in front.

According to onemotoring.lta.gov.sg, a single yellow zigzag sign indicates no parking on that side of the road at all times, except for immediate pick-up and drop-off.

In an update posted by Mr Yeo, he received a comment from TTSH. The comment read that the hospital wanted to take the opportunity to update that the security officer is a staff from AETOS and that they had highlighted the situation to AETOS as well.

“He has since been removed from duty at our hospital pending further actions. We are also working with AETOS to remind staff to be mindful and respectful to our patients and visitors at the hospital”, they wrote.
