Uncle Raymond, whose dancing videos on TikTok have gained him quite a following in Singapore, was recently prevented from dancing at the main square at ITE College West. A June 13 TikTok from @sgvirallll showed Uncle Raymond, together with three other men, beginning to dance with one of his signature moves, the upraised arm with the fist in the air.

Barely a second into the video, a black-clad security officer enters the scene and stops the dancing. Booing and cries of “oh man” can be heard from onlookers. A woman, appearing to be a school official, can be seen approaching and speaking to the group.

Sixty-year-old Uncle Raymond, who goes by @Raymondl88 on TikTok, has been bringing his dance moves to different parts of Singapore over the past weeks and months.

Even Health Minister Ong Ye Kung did a TikTok with him. Along with some healthcare workers, he and his “special guest…the famous Uncle Raymond,” did the signature dance in a clip posted just last week, on June 9.

Getting some morning exercise with healthcare workers, led by Uncle Raymond! As I always say, it need not be difficult to stay healthy. Thanks for meeting. Be happy. #HealthierSG

Uncle Raymond joined the platform in March of 2020 and can be seen in his videos in different places all around Singapore such as Universal Studios Singapore and the Ang Mo Kio MRT station.

He and his guests usually dance to a version of Faye Wong’s “Hundred Years of Solitude (百年孤寂)” or more recently, to Tanja Thomas’ One Way Ticket (To The Blues).

Children, couples, small groups, and even a minister has joined in the fun.

The gracious TikToker almost always captions his posts with “Thanks for meeting be happy let’s move.”

Some commenters said that Uncle Raymond and the students should have just been allowed to do the dance.

Others, however, said that the security officer was just doing his job.

Others expressed admiration for how the dancing uncle handled the situation.

Nevertheless, nothing seems to stop Uncle Raymond from dancing.
