Crimewatch staff sneak in names like “Chee***” and “Lan***” in television episode

Words that refer to male and female genitalia were spotted in a list that was featured in a Crimewatch episode. Telecast on free-to-air Mediacorp channels, Crimewatch is a television programme produced by the National Crime Prevention Council and the Singapore Police Force that showcases the work of the local police.

Having been telecast regularly since 1986, Crimewatch is now available in the four major languages in Singapore: English, Malay, Chinese, and Tamil. The show is presented by serving regular police officers and features solved cases, appeals for unsolved cases, as well as crime prevention advice.

A keen Crimewatch fan, reddit user u/GreetingsGamblers, chanced upon the unsavoury words “chee***” and “lan****” when he was rewatching Crimewatch episodes that were telecast in 2013:

Besides supplying fellow reddit users with a screenshot of the clip, u/GreetingsGamblers posted a list of the names that are visible in the clip, as well:

  • Buang Bin Bakar
  • Sharon Qu Lin Ai
  • Varon Chee Bai Ling
  • Lia Kasmira Bte Kasmiri
  • Shanti D/O Manikalaam
  • Low Wai Keong Eric
  • Isnin Bin Selasa
  • Muniash D/O Thanggelimpur
  • Rahim Bin Abdullah
  • Leonard Tie Lan Chao
  • Danish bin Swedish

It is likely that a cheeky staff of the production may have inserted these names into the list, although it is curious that the list made it past the producers and editors of the show and into the final cut.
