A woman who was charged in the State Courts in January for hurting the religious feelings of her neighbours at an HDB block in Tampines last year has pleaded guilty to two of the charges today. The woman, Lee Dji Lin, 63, pleaded guilty to the charge of wounding the religious or racial feelings of Marliah Jonet. She threw a piece of raw pork from a lift to outside the victim’s flat at Blk 247 Tampines Street 21 on 18 June 2016. She also pleaded guilty to one charge of harassment. The other harassment charge was taken into consideration.

The judgee ordered Lee to get a Mandatory Treatment Order suitability report from the Institute of Mental Health. She will be back in Court on 25 May for sentencing. For the charge of wounding the religious or racial feelings, Lee faces a jail term of up to three years, or a fine, or both; and for the charges of harassment, she faces a fine of up to $5,000 for one harassment charge, and a jail term of up to six months, or a fine of up to $5,000, or both for the other harassment charge.

Lee allegedly waved a pig-shaped figurine and shouted insults in Malay at one of Marliah’s daughters including “pig, pig, pig, piglet, one by one (your) children die” on 24 Apr 2016. She is also accused of using a bamboo pole attached with a female underwear and swinging it towards Marliah’s flat on 14 June last year.

Youtube user Jane Smith (who was later revealed to be Jonet’s sister-in-law and former model Hanis Hussey) shared the video of a Chinese woman seemingly harassing her neighbours. Besides other inconsiderate acts, the woman was accused of throwing pork on her Muslim neighbour’s front door.

Jane Smith said that the person being harassed is her sister-in-law who lost her husband and daughter a few years ago. The user who titled her video, “Muslim Hate Crime in Tampines, Singapore”,  said: “Throwing (pork) meat on someone’s front door is inciting religious and racial hatred! That’s a crime!”. According to jane, the harassment has been ongoing for the last 6 years.

Jonet is described as a 61-year-old widow  and the incident happened at Blk 247 Tampines Street 21. The neighbour lives on the 9th floor, one floor below Marliah’s flat.

“Everyday this neighbour shouts hurtful and disturbing words about the loss of this (her sis-in-law’s) family,” said Jane in explaining that it has caused severe stress on the family. Jane’s sister-in-law was also admitted to hospital due to this harassment.

Jane’s video captured a Chinese woman mocking the dead husband and child of a neighbour, and spraying water on neighbours’ clothes. Jane claimed that the most disturbing act happened during the month of Ramadan, when the harasser allegedly threw port at her sister-in-law’s doorstep. She was caught on CCTV.
