As the one year mark of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s passing draws near, the government (and related) machineries have gone into overdrive to immortalise him. Over 100 events have been planned islandwide where Singaporeans can remember him.
Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean too has reminded Singaporeans that “Singapore was not just Lee Kuan Yew’s life’s work, (but that) it was his life.”
Today, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong shared the picture of an orchid which NParks named ‘Aranda Lee Kuan Yew’ in honour of the founding Prime Minister at his passing and said, “I took this photo in my office soon after the week of national mourning. A year has passed quickly, and next week we will be marking the first anniversary.”

Vanda Miss Joaquim var. Agnes was designated as Singapore’s national flower in 15 April 1981. It was part of an overall effort to foster national pride and identity. Singapore has the unique distinction of being the only nation to have a hybrid as its national flower.
