Back in 2015, Malaysian entrepreneur Jho Low had allegedly embezzled billions of dollars from Malaysia’s IMDB fund.

He used the money to fund his luxurious lifestyle and gift celebrities as well as finance the movie The Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

American socialite Paris Hilton, Taiwanese singer Elva Hsiao and Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr received luxurious items from the unassuming billionaire.

Journalists from New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Hollywood Reporter investigates the 1MDB scandal which is filmed in the documentary.

The money trails back to Najib Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor, real estate deals, Hollywood film and music record label investments and a USD$250 million super yacht.

Featuring interviews with best-selling novel Billion Dollar Whale, Tom Wright and Bradley Hope including Najib’s estranged brother Nazir, Malaysian politician Tony Pua, political cartoonist Zunar and Hollywood actor Robert De Niro, The Kleptocrats give an insight to the lives of the main protagonist in this real life documentary.

Watch exclusive footage of Low meeting Najib, partying with stars like Dicaprio, Kerr and Hilton, plus the over-the-top parties hosted by Wolf Of Wall Street’s production company, Red Granite Pictures, where Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and Jamie Foxx performed.

The film was executive produced by Louise Story, investigative journalist and former NYT journalist, and award-winning directors Havana Marking and Sam Hobkinson.

Hobkinson commented, “If we have watched The Wolf Of Wall Street, downloaded music tracks owned by EMI, or stay1ed in the Park Lane Hotel in New York, we have unknowingly given money to alleged fraudsters… I hope the film goes some way to giving a louder voice to the people of Malaysia, and other states, who have suffered due to the greed of kleptocratic rulers.”

iwonder Co-Founder and CEO James Bridges added, “We are thrilled to bring The Kleptocrats exclusively to viewers in Singapore. Dominating global headlines for months, the scandal along with chronology of events are stranger and more outrageous than fiction. The Kleptokrats does a truly phenomenal job following the investigations which finally exposed the corruption to the world. The film is a perfect example of the marriage of world events and documentary that iwonder is all about.”
