Malaysia ― Last year, Sarawak-born actor Xavier Kong made his debut in the entertainment scene. Kong acted in the film The Art of Position and is now involved in a new film called I Want To Talk To Dad.
Coincidentally, the film he is currently acting in is similar to some challenges he faced in his life.
The actor received some shocking news when he first accepted the role. Kong’s father was critically unwell, and his health was deteriorating. He then began a race against time to return home to see his father.
At that time, Kong was living in Taiwan as Malaysia had another Covid-19 outbreak. However, when he received the news, Kong knew that he had to return home immediately.
Unfortunately, the task was made more difficult by the many standard operating procedures and policies created due to the pandemic. Kong travelled from Taiwan to Singapore, then to Kuching, Sarawak.
Following that, it took another five days before he could reach home in Sibu, as reported by Hype.my.
As dictated by pandemic procedures, Kong was quarantined in a hotel for fourteen days. There was limited time and the actor nearly missed the window to see his father.
Fortunately, after following all official procedures, Kong was allowed to meet his father for the last time. The actor spent three hours with his father before his father passed away.
Kong cherished the time he managed to spend with his father and later wrote a moving eulogy on Instagram.
He thanked his father for teaching him as he grew and said he would miss his daily calls at 7 pm. “I thank God I could be with you, (to) hold your hand, to hear you say (you) are satisfied with our family,” he wrote. “You are forever alive in my heart. I love you, dad.”
The actor admitted that the plot of I Want To Talk To Dad had hit close to home. Kong felt that he was afraid of losing himself in the memories as he drew on it for his performance.
At the moment, the most important thing to Kong is that he hopes to truly convey the film’s message as what a family is.
Kong’s immediate concern currently is singing the theme song of the show Lily of the Valley.
The Sarawakian also hopes that the drama will allow people to know more about him, such as the fact that he is from Sibu, Sarawak. /TISG
