Singapore — A woman earning significantly less than her boyfriend wrote that she could not help but feel resentful and jealous of him.

In an anonymous post to the popular confessions Facebook page NUSWhispers, she her boyfriend had a high socio-economic status (SES) earned S$12,000 a month, had a well-off family and drives a car.

She, on the other hand, referred to herself as “middle class”, earning S$2,500 a month. Her parents were not so well to do and so they rarely went out for meals and could not afford to own a car.

“My boyfriend doesn’t (sic) mind all of these things about me and I know it’s  just me but I can’t help but feel so inferior compared to him,” she confided.

She explained that she felt he could very easily find someone similar to her, but earning a lot more, which would enable him to maintain his current standard of living, without him downgrading himself to match her financial capacity.
