In order to satisfy his sexual desire, a local man not only repeatedly threatened his girlfriend to provide nude photos but also instigated his girlfriend to secretly take nude photos of her mother and send them to him. On Aug 8, he was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison.
The 25-year-old accused has now broken up with his girlfriend. In order to protect the identity of the woman and her mother, a gag order was placed on the media by the Court.
The accused pleaded guilty to two counts of instigating his ex-girlfriend to secretly photograph her mother and threatening to distribute private photos and videos of his ex-girlfriend. The other two counts were handed over to the judge for consideration.
He threatened to commit suicide if his girlfriend didn’t give him nude pictures
The Court heard that the accused had been dating the 23-year-old woman since 2018, and repeatedly recorded their sexual activity with the consent of his girlfriend.
Every week, the accused asked his girlfriend for her nude photos about five times; if the girlfriend refused, the accused threatened to kill himself, beat her, or put the nude photos and videos he already had on the Internet. His girlfriend felt she had to comply.
By early 2020, the defendant had told his girlfriend that the intimacy between the two was not enough to satisfy his sexual desire.
Fearing the accused would hit her or put her nude photos online, the girlfriend suggested the accused imagine having sex with her mother. The accused agreed but claimed that imagination alone was not enough and asked his girlfriend to secretly take nude photos of her mother.
The girlfriend took a candid photo while her mother was topless after taking a bath and then sent the photo to the accused. The accused also pretended to be his girlfriend and sent her nude photos to strangers on the chat platform. When the girlfriend proposed to break up, the accused not only refused but also threatened her again.
Asked girlfriend to have sex with a stranger
In February last year, the accused told his girlfriend that he needs to be sexually satisfied and asked her to find a way to do so. When his girlfriend said she couldn’t satisfy him, she was threatened again.
The accused also asked his girlfriend to contact strangers to have sex and threatened that if she didn’t do so, he would put the nude photo of her mother online and set it as the profile picture of her social media account. His girlfriend reluctantly complied with him.
It was not until March 14 last year that his girlfriend finally plucked up the courage to call the police. After the defendant learned about it, he immediately deleted all conversation records with his girlfriend, as well as intimate photos and videos.
Prosecution and judge slam defendant as morally corrupt
The prosecution slammed the accused’s conduct as morally corrupt and asked the judge to sentence him to 18 to 21 weeks in prison. The prosecution said the accused threatened to publish these images and recordings on widely used platforms such as Instagram and Reddit; and once published, they may be further disseminated.
The accused’s lawyer said that he had pleaded guilty the first time and did not disturb his ex-girlfriend afterwards. The lawyer also pointed out that the accused was a first-time offender and also had a history of anxiety and depression.
The judge said that the accused was morally corrupt. In the case of instigating his ex-girlfriend to secretly photograph her mother, although the accused did not secretly photograph her, the culpability was still quite high, because the ex-girlfriend had to come up with an alternative method under threat, and the ex-girlfriend was under threat. The girlfriend’s mother naturally would not be wary of her daughter, so the accused was able to succeed.
