Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim rumoured to be at loggerheads with Valencia’s manager and general director

Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim, owner of Spanish football club Valencia CF is rumoured to be feuding with Mateu Alemany, the club’s general director.

Marcaa Spanish daily reported that a meeting was called on 29 Jul for Lim and Alemany to clear the air over their misunderstanding.

“After some years of turbulence, the ship had been steadied in recent seasons but now there’s a new cloud looming over the club.”

It was also reported that the club’s manager Marcelino would attend the meeting.

Editor of ESPN UK, David Cartlidge claimed in a tweet that Marcelino and Alemany worked well together.

On the other hand, Lim and Alemany were speculated to be “at each other’s throats” as Lim wants more power over player transfers.

He also claimed that a transfer deal for Rafinha, a Brazilian midfielder who plays for Barcelona was put together by Alemany and Marcelino but Lim allegedly cancelled the deal.

Hector Gomez, Valencia-based journalist claimed that Marcelino is prepared to quit the club if Alemany is fired.

According to Cartlidge, Valencia players have confronted Marcelino and asked him not to leave, and even if Alemany is sacked, they believe in the “project” at Valencia and have rejected offers to move elsewhere.

Valencia has risen no higher than fourth place in the league under Lim’s ownership but they did win the Copa Del Rey tournament this year.

Gary Neville, former Manchester United icon was hired by Lim to manage the club in 2015. and he was described by Goal.com as a “friend and business partner”.

Just after four months in charge, Neville was dismissed.

This recent upset will not do well for Valencia as they head to challenge the giants of Barcelona and Real Madrid for the Spanish league title. -/TISG
